Foong's Hainan Chicken Rice — Restaurant in George Town

We’ve had lunch here multiple times over the weekends. This Chicken Rice shop is located along Hutton Road in Georgetown. Business hours are from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily, and it’s closed every Friday. So, do take note if you’re planning a visit.

On our most recent visit, we noticed a slight change in the interior layout. The chicken rice stall, which was originally positioned right at the entrance, has been moved about two tables inward. This is a thoughtful change, it makes ordering easier and improves seating comfort for customers.

We really enjoy the chicken rice here. The fragrant, oily rice tastes amazing when paired with the smooth, tender, and flavorful chicken, an absolutely perfect match! We also enjoyed the crunchy bean sprouts (taugeh), the light clear soup, and a refreshing iced coffee.

You’ll also find a variety of side dishes on the menu, such as loh bak, loh egg, cucumber, bean sprouts, gizzard, liver, and bishop’s nose.

They offer a wide selection of beverages, ranging from homemade drinks like sugar-free Luo Han Guo, Chrysanthemum Tea, and Longan, to bottled and canned options such as 100 Plus, Coke, and Sarsi. Fresh options like Orange Juice, Chinese Tea, and Mineral Water are also available on the menu.

The dining environment is clean and comfortable. We were lucky to get a table without waiting, as the place gets very crowded during peak lunch hours.

Ordering is simple: place your food order at the counter, and it will be delivered to your table. Payment is made at the counter after your meal. They accept cash and eWallet (via QR code), but credit cards are...

Easy to find place but do inform the owner on Facebook or call them if you are coming down if you want to guarantee availability. Absolutely a joy to have chicken rice here. We had chicken breast and leg. For those who want to know how authentic chicken rice tastes (no bells and whistles), this is the place to come. Tender, juicy and fragrant meat (meat is not hung at display counter), rice tastes just right, moist and not greasy, chilli sauce is just the right balance of spicy, sweet and savoury. No oyster sauce used for the braised egg. We also had braised egg and bean sprouts to complete our meal. Both of these were splendid. To top off our experience, we were greeted with a clean kopitiam and even background music from the 70s and 80s. We initially ordered one portion of leg and breast but ended up ordering one more portion each. It was really good. What a joy to be here...

I love their chicken rice so much..

I have been trying a lot of hainan chicken rice shops in Penang, especially, George Town areas, so far this is the best place (for me).

The price for chicken rice, I think it is still reasonable although I have a tight budget.

Their chicken meat including gizzards are always fresh, soft with nice flavour sauce.

Most of big and small bones are removed beforehand unlike from others shops so wont be bothered by small small bones while eating.

Even topping (like spring onions and cucumbers) are always fresh.

Portion of chicken and rice are just enough to be full.

Their soup are boiled together with chicken remaining (bones and heads part) with gingers. It is simple but I still can feel the flavour from those ingredients.
