I usually avoid restaurants named after white guys when I'm in Mexico, but it was my partner's 30th birthday and he wanted a drink and a taco before we boarded our booze cruise and John's Place was across the street from our boarding area. The tacos and the micheladas were great.
Later, after the booze cruise, and my partner much drunker, we stopped by here again, this time for some hangover-prevention food. I usually also avoid Italian dishes while in Mexico, but after 10 days of tacos, I was craving some fettuccine alfredo. We started with the tableside guac. It was heavenly, and a huge portion. Next came my fettuccine. I was surprised by how perfectly cooked my fettuccine was, literally better than the pasta I paid 3x as much for at The Pink Door in Seattle. The sauce was incredible, and the asparagus that came on top of the pasta complemented the dish very well. I am still craving more of that fettuccine alfredo. My partner had more tacos and he loved them. The next day and to this day, he doesn't remember what they were like, but I can assure you that he told me that he loved them when he was eating them.
Our server was so sweet and patient, an absolute doll that provided excellent service.

Read moreWe stopped by John’s Place for a casual dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor packed into this cozy Mexican spot. From the first bite to the last sip, the meal hit all the right notes.
The carne asada burrito was a standout—perfectly grilled steak, tender and well-seasoned, wrapped in a warm tortilla with just the right balance of rice, beans, and fresh toppings. It was hearty without being overly heavy.
The carne asada taco delivered the same great flavor in a more bite-sized version. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the tortilla was soft but held together nicely. A bit of lime and salsa brought everything to life.
For drinks, the margarita was crisp and refreshing with a nice tangy balance—clearly made with fresh lime juice and not overly sweet. The piña colada was creamy, tropical, and blended smooth, making it a fun contrast to the spicy food.
Service was friendly and relaxed, and the vibe matched—a great place for a low-key night out with reliably delicious food and drinks. We’ll definitely be back for more carne asada...

DONT go here for food!
We ordered there special of lobster, prawns and steak at 39usd each. When we asked what kind of steak it was, the server replied "rib eye", so naturally we said of course that sounds great.
The food comes out and we noticed that the steak is not what it was promoted to be. We try to get through it being polite.
The steak turned out to be a very cheap cut of meat that was incredibly tough and flavorless. Basically having to be doused in butter to be edible. We said to ourselves "eh, its protien".
The other parts of the plate were similarly put together, with the lobster and prawns overcooked and chewy.
Overal, was a big let down.
To top off this horrendous culinary experience they had the audacity to rib eye steak on the bill.
Another person in our group had flank steak that was better than what we got.
We could have spent our 200usd on much...
