I'm updating this review after eating at Kauil 3 times for dinner during our week long stay in Cabo. I dropped 1 star for Service, but the Food and Atmosphere stay 5 stars. Here's my revised review.

Food: Everything we've had here is great. We enjoyed the free empanada starters, the tortilla soup, the Octopus main entree, the fish al pastor tacos, the fish in white wine sauce, and the kids meals. For the kids meals, I appreciate that they had a pasta pomodoro dish for kids, that comes with freshly grated cheese on the side. Note that the first time we dined there, we were wrongly told by the waiter that adding chicken to the kids pasta was the same price, instead it's an extra charge. My children really enjoyed their pasta dish and I liked that it felt like an elevated "grown up" meal but catered to children in children's size and prize. Also, a shout out for the lemonade mixed with still water, it's delicious and when ordered for the kids, it comes in a nice tight cup with a lid and straw. When ordered for adults, it comes in a big margarita glass. Get the lemonade for your kids and yourself! One thing we also really liked was their grilled bread, it comes free with the meal and it was a nice touch to have some of that warm bread when the kids were eating pasta or as an additional side when eating entrees. We also liked the dessert of churros but I feel for the price, there's less value there.

Atmosphere: We've eaten in the back wine room which is warm and cozy, and also eaten on their outdoor patio which was also lovely. I liked both atmospheres, and would recommend those sections instead of the front section that's right by the street. One thing I really liked about Kauil is that the tables felt spaced far enough apart, you never felt rushed, and it was a great place to take kids because it wasn't too loud/party atmosphere but also not too refined that you would have to worry about kids giggling or knocking over a drink (due to the kids cups).

Service: This is where it was less than 5 stars for us. Some of the issues we encountered included:

  1. Being told adding chicken to the kids meal was included in the price when it turned out to be an extra charge. This happened the first time we dined there, and we didn't figure this out until our 3rd time eating there because we didn't exactly remember the price of the kids item on the menu when looking at the bill.
  2. On two occasions, when we ordered the tortilla soup, my husband asked them to add chicken, and one time it was priced one way and another day it was priced at 5x what it was charged as the previous time. We had to speak to the waiter and then he adjusted.
  3. Service can be slow, multiple times when we asked for the check, it was probably at least 10 minutes before we would get the check, then you're waiting again for someone to come over with the machine to take credit card. It seems like one waiter covers quite a few tables, so if there's an influx of people and you didn't place your main entree at the very beginning when the waiter comes to take your drink order, you could be waiting awhile before you get to place your main entree order.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience due to the food and atmosphere and I recommend this restaurant to families.

Tip: This restaurant takes credit cards and I recommend you check the pesos vs USD price bc they can charge your card with either monetary unit. It was more advantageous to us to charge in USD because it was actually cheaper than the official bank rate when you did the conversion from...

This restaurant was exceptional.

We were a little hesitant at first because it’s on a main street by a lot of popular restaurants who, in our opinion, lack in quality BUT this was not the case.

By pure chance, we ended up here and now it’s become one of our top 2 favorite restaurants in Cabo, Mexico.

The service was above and beyond. Everyone there was working hard for us to have the best experience.

The food was simply delicious, full of flavor and great portion sizes. Don’t even get me started on desserts! OKAY OKAY, I’ll tell you - GET THEM ALL! The Brownie with Basil Mint ice cream was very unique, we enjoyed it! The churros were a classic but made to perfection. The Flan was scrumptious. The Brûlée was probably our least favorite but only because we wanted to be full more with the others. The Mexican Coffee was a real treat! Tequila plus caffeine? Dynamic duo.

Please eat here! You won’t be disappointed. Very reasonable prices, exceptional service, lovely atmosphere (request sitting in the back patio), and flavorful food and drink! All components of a excellent evening...

We're from Chicago on vacation with the family and cannot speak highly enough of the quality of food, service and drinks here at Restaurante Kauil! Easily the best meal and service we've had here in Cabo, the lamb app was so good we ordered 2 and our son also had it as his main course. Salvador, our waiter was the best!! His recommendations from dinner, to drinks to desert were on point!! We cannot speak highly enough of this place and stacks up to any fine dining place in Cabo for a fraction of the price! 5 of us ate like kings, including, authentic homemade margaritas, appetizers, bone in filet and Lobster, Seabass, and my favorite Shrimp stuffed in a Pablano and desert. The service was outstanding (and we're spoiled coming from Chicago which is known for very good service), the food came out fast and hot! Can't say enough good things about this restaurant! We highly recommend this restaurant, you will not be...

Foodie dreams do come true! I've dined many places in Mexico and few had the imaginative and well applied technical skills to deliver the way Kauil did. We were seated immediately upon arrival for our 6pm reservation. The place was not busy initially but more people arrived later. They started us with a mix of cheese and mushroom empenadas with three different hot sauces, which went well with delicious jamaica margaritas. I had the watermelon, goat cheese, and field green salad which was refreshing and large enough for two to share. Our party had enchiladas suissas, shrimp chile relleno, and the mixed plate with a chile relleno/steak/corn masa pudding/ cactus salad. All were incredible. The dessert highlights were mint-basil ice cream, churros, and flan. They also serve Caesar salad and Mexican coffee, both made table side. Manuel was charming and friendly. It was a great dining experience and definitely fit for foodies

The service was very good. They were friendly and welcoming, and they speak English. We got Pina Coladas two for $9 that were pretty good. I got it with less alcohol, and it was perfect for me. They had a free platter of the corn quesadillas that were like cheese empanadas made with corn flour that were really good! I got the tortilla soup and kind of regretted it. They bring you out a bowl of avocado, tortilla chip strips, and cheese, and pour a tomato broth over it. When I make it, I like to toast the cheese onto the chips and serve it hot, but with their preparation, the avocado was still cold, and the broth was cooled quickly. It wasn't very special or enjoyable. There are daily specials; I saw another customer get the $16 Saturday ribs special and it looked like a good portion and delicious. Overall, I'd love to come back, and I would recommend the corn quesadillas, but I wouldn't recommend the tortilla soup.
