Lets start of with a compliment: the mussels were nice and the experience has potential for a nice night out.
But...
The waitress asked us nicely if it was time to start cooking our dinner, but after 10 sec our dinner already arrived. She apparently already entered it by mistake and it came way too early, no biggie there The fries she forgot to enter so they never came To make it up they offered something on the house which was very kind. We asked for a surprise which they said they would bring, but the surprise was that after 45 min we still had nothing We moved outside and in this time they did not clear/clean the table that we moved to After the 45 min the waiter came to us asking if we needed anything. We said we were still waiting for the surprise, but he actually forgot what we agreed upon. Then he came up with a lame question: asking that he still wanted us to ask what the surprise would be. Newsflash: its not a surprise if we say what we want. If your struggling with your service just be proactive and say so. We werent the only ones waiting. We decided to leave and we got charged for something that we didnt have. Administrative error, but as we dutch say: this was the drop that let the bucket overflow
They seemed very stale with having stiff procedures. The could have went out-of-the-box to repair our evening out by using their amazing venue and potential. Instead, they scraped something from the bill with a short sorry. When my girlfriend walked out they couldnt even look her in the eye or say goodbye.
You can do so much better. Hope you will learn from this night. You have the potential of being one the best hidden gems in de city of...
Read moreI live in Amsterdam and had not been to this place in a while. I went there to enjoy a drink with my wife and two kids on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy, but with a large number of waiters present service should have been much faster than it was. And regardless of the number of staff, service should have been at a minimum level of friendliness. I almost felt the urge to apologize for being a customer and taking up the waiter’s time, so annoyed and bored was his attitude. But ok, everyone has an off day sometime. However, the most unpleasant surprise came when he handed us the bill which stated, in English only, that “service is not included”. This is a scam! Service is ALWAYS included in the bill in The Netherlands. You can certainly tip at a bar (5% is normal ) if you liked the service, but it is never a requirement. Unlike in some other countries waiting staff are paid decent wages in The Netherlands. This is a dubious attempt to extort money from unexpecting foreign tourists who are unaware of Dutch customs and law. I am extremely disappointed by this and will never visit this...
Read moreThis place literally fell in our path… Busy and boisterous and obviously a favourite on the map.
It was early Friday evening the sun was shining, beers and Geneva was flowing. Dutch tradition of ‘head butt’ - (small beer and large shot of Geneva to be drunk with your mouth on the rim of the glass! Gawd the stuff of legendary hangovers!!! ) This is the home of Geneva after all.
The crowd were up for a good time - a mix of tourists, ex pats and young Dutchies all taking advantage of Friday vibes and amazing weather.
I introduced Mark to Bitterballen - deep fried balls of cheese/ meat in breadcrumbs that they scoff by the truck load with beer in these parts…. They hit the spot ‘dirty and greasy’.
We decided to stay for dinner as the food looked great. We both ordered Moules Frites, a huge pot of steaming Dutch spicy molluscs landed with chunks of bread and delicious salty fries.
Service was friendly and attentive with plenty of Dutch banter, beers and Gruner Veltliner flowed and we exited into the beautiful city happy with our bellies...
