My mother is very sick so I moved back to my country and left my job abroad to assist her until she will pass away. I decided to come visit my beloved Amsterdam by myself for a few days as a short break from the real tough situation back home. I was in the mood for a beer by the canals, as I have a lot to process. I found this bar and went inside. I naturally am very shy as a person so I waited for the bartender to acknowledge my presence before greeting and order. He was doing things and talking with other clients so I patiently waited. A couple came inside and didn’t notice me, so they proceeded to order. I politely told them I was there before them, when the bartender intervened, asking me what was wrong with me, that they were just greeting him. I tried to explain myself but he didn’t let me, saying that he would have proceeded serving them first instead of myself, because of my rudeness, saying that I didn’t even greeted when I arrived. I didn’t have the strenght to reply. I waited. He served them and then turned to me, while more people were coming inside. In front of all these people, he proceeded asking me what my problem was and that he didn’t want to serve me. I left, speechless. You never know what people are going through and the reasons why they act. I felt very bad afterwards. To be kind doesn’t cost a thing.
Yes, I am sure. Last sunday 28 of july. The...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I loved this "Brown Bar" so much that we came here not once, not twice, but three times.
This is seriously the perfect Amsterdam bar (I know because we went to at least 50 over five days). It's down a small ally, there is a sign that says "dogs are welcome, humans are tolerated," and there is an insanely amazing beer selection. Each beer is also poured in its appropriately branded glass.
There's wifi and bathrooms. There's tiny little stools and old wooden tables. This place is seriously without question my favorite bar in Amsterdam. I cannot recommend it...
Read more(Jan 2007) nother well located bar in a small alleyway off Spuistraat. Right ’over the road’ (ie 2m) from the Cracked Kettle bottle ’o, well worth a visit in its own right. Has a definite locals vibe compared to most other bars in the city. (I still can’t believe how easy it is to get around this place!!). Very grungy inside but doesn’t suffer for this. Adds to the casual feeling. Perhaps 150 beers by bottle, mostly Belgian. 10-odd taps. P.s - short guys (height, not member length) need not apply for...
