La Chupiteria – Cusco’s Late-Night Playground for the Bold and the Reckless
Cusco, a city where altitude sickness and Pisco Sours go hand in hand, has its fair share of watering holes. But if you’re looking for something less ‘quaint colonial charm’ and more ‘fire-breathing chaos,’ La Chupiteria is your spot. It’s not just a bar—it’s a rite of passage. A neon-lit sanctuary for the bold, the restless, and the slightly unhinged.
You don’t come here for craft cocktails. You don’t come here to sip and swirl, contemplating mouthfeel and terroir. You come for shots, and lots of them. The menu, a weathered book of mischief, is filled with unholy concoctions meant to either make you a legend or have you waking up questioning your life choices. Absinthe shots? Of course. Flaming ones? Even better. The bartenders here don’t just pour drinks; they orchestrate small acts of anarchy, setting the bar on fire—sometimes literally.
The crowd is an international medley of backpackers, digital nomads, and Cusqueños looking to shake off the week. There’s always a certain energy here, that feeling like anything could happen—and probably will. The music is loud, the pours are dangerously heavy-handed, and if you’re playing your cards right, the night doesn’t end here; it simply bleeds into something else.
And let’s talk about the women—Cusco seems to attract a certain kind of traveler: adventurous, free-spirited, and just drunk enough to be impressed by a well-timed toast in bad Spanish. Cute girls, wild nights, and the kind of stories you can only tell after leaving the country.
If you’re in Cusco, and you’re not here at least once, you’re doing it wrong. This isn’t a place for the timid. It’s a place where memories blur, shots burn, and the night stretches into something you’ll never quite forget—or...
Read moreBesides the great reviews here, this was not the ideal place for me! This is really about my personal taste and environment. I went as a solo woman and I didn’t feel the environment was very solo friendly. Maybe for younger crowds and people not in their mid 30s like me this could be a fun place, I am writing this from the perspective of a solo woman. I was also told there was a free welcome shot, yet they never gave it to me and I watched crowds come and go from the bar and they were all getting the welcome shots. I even reminded them twice that I hadn’t gotten it and nothing. I felt this was bad service and not friendly towards a solo woman. Like I said, I don’t recommend this at all if you’re...
Read moreWe went the night of the 5th April 2024 as tourists. The service was very disappointing. First, they forgot an order of pisco sours, then I asked for nachos, and they gave me fried wonton (wantanes) with sauces. I asked them to change the plate because that was not what it said in their menu. They just decided to remove my plate and say that they don't have it anymore. So I felt that like a scam for any tourist. Besides, the hamburgers were dried and tasteless, we always had to remind the waiters to bring our orders, and the waiting time felt endless. We are definitely not...
