i heard that one of the owners of this place was the former executive chef of the mandarin oriental in manila......so that got me curious. the bad thing about hearing something like that, the expectations can get rather high, and most often places fall short. first time i went here, i tried the pulled pork and the fish sandwich. it was rather good, well really better than most. so the next time, i went for the hungarian sausage, which i learned was made by them and not bought commercially, that was very good.....then next time, the steak and cheese, then the ban mih, then the chicken wings, and even their pride and joy chori sandwich........grrrrrrr! this place has me to the point that they are pissing me off! i have to hit the gym harder. after several trips, i want to say something bad about the food and so far i really can't. i live here in boracay 8 months a year, and i have found one of the very very few reliable "go to" for absolute good food at a fair price. i haven't gone through the whole menu....yet, so maybe i will find something bad. hey nobody is perfect right? oh plus they make their own bread daily? in the end, for us hungry people, it does not matter who owns a place or if it's fancy schmancy.....what matters is how good the food we pay for is and the servers are pretty damn nice too.....i'm happy. but go see for yourself :).....by the way, i actually haven't tried the burgers, so i can't talk about...
Read moreThis was a random pick as we were too tired to walk elsewhere for dinner, but we were pleasantly surprised. The place is rather unassuming, at a glance it is reminiscent of a tattoo parlor, bike shop, or some similar place because of the ambiance and the font of the restaurant signage. Maybe the restaurant can improve on this point by adding shokuhin sampuru in front of the restaurant, or emphasizing its delicious burgers.
We had the Steak & Cheese and Burgerella with Cream Cheese and Garlic toppings—very tasty, juicy, and filling. The kitchen is located upstairs, and the food comes down (literally) through some sort of steampunk mechanism, which we found rather amusing and was a really fun quirk for diners’ experiences. The lady staff who served us was also exceedingly accommodating and warm, and added to the pleasant dining experience.
All in all, Steampunk deserves more patrons because of its good food and equally good service, but they can definitely do a better job promoting themselves as a quality burger...
Read moreWas really excited to go to this place after looking up the reviews and looking at some of the videos on their Facebook page. Interesting watching the dumbwaiter lower your burger with all the turning gears and the puff of steam. Quality of beef had some gristle but the flavor was good. I guess my biggest complaint would be that the extra toppings are 45 pesos each. Make a burger with everything on it and let the customer decide what they don't want on it. I mean I honestly do you really think caramelized onions cost 45 pesos? A slice of cheese cost 45 pesos? Or putting barbecue sauce on your burger cost 45 pesos? If you want some ideas on how to make an all-inclusive Burger visit red Robin burgers dot-com get some ideas. I will say on a positive note our waiter Nathaniel was outstanding and was great at entertaining us with conversation about the local area, and answered a lot of our questions about items...
