Disappointed Experience – Overpriced Unfair Practices
I was quite disappointed with my experience here. While the waiter was polite, the food quality didn’t match the price. The meat was just okay, the rice was undercooked, and some of bread tasted stale.
At the end of the meal, there was an unexpected 20% “tax” added to the bill. The prices were already higher than what I’m used to in America, where I’m visiting from. All my cards, which worked fine at other places, were declined, and the nearby ATM wasn’t functional.
I had to pay in USD, and the receipt showed $75, but the actual amount should have been closer to $66 based on Google’s exchange rate. I pointed out the incorrect conversion rate to the manager, but it didn’t help much.
I gave $80 USD and was expecting change but the change was calculated using the Google rate I mentioned vs the Price was the fake USD RATE. A slap in the face. The manager, realizing I understood the discrepancy, awkwardly offered an extra 100 TRY as compensation, which was still less than what was fair. The situation felt embarrassing, like I was bargaining over food, especially as I wanted to tip the waitress for her good service. However, the manager dismissed the idea, likely aware I had already been overcharged.
Final Thoughts: As a Muslim, it was disheartening to experience this. Islam teaches us to avoid cheating, as emphasized in Surah Mutaffifin. This kind of practice is unfair and reflects poorly on the establishment.
I hope the owner takes action to remove surprise "tax" and reconsiders the pricing to avoid alienating tourists. Nearby restaurants offer better service and prices at nearly...
Read moreIt is an amazing place with a cozy and great atmosphere. The food was nothing less than amazing, tasty, and spectacular (tomato soup and the authentic doner), and at the end we got free treats as well (tea and balkava). We basically just arrived and were on a night stroll when we came upon this place, and we entered because we were so hungry. The hosts were so eager to please and friendly.
The only thing I hated (and it followed us during our stay in Turkey) is the purposeful deceitfulness. We came to the restaurant and asked the host whether we could pay with a card, and he answered affirmative. But at the end of our feast, we found out that I couldn't pay with the card, so I had to run out and search for an ATM, in a city foreign to me. Also, I would say that the food was a tiny bit on the...
Read moreIf there was a -100 star i would have chosen it. The server was super drunk and reeked of alcohol. He was making inappropriate sexual comments about my female friend and he kept hugging and touching my male friend every time he came to the table. He served us food we didnt order then licked his finger after some of the food got on his hand right in front of us. We ended up leaving early even though the manager could tell we were uncomfortable and we complained more than once. They didn’t let us pay for the iced tea and water we ordered but thats the least they could do after the horrible experience. Even the other worker that told us we didn’t need to pay was...
