The menu is great. Many options that you won't easily find together somewhere else. We got a Chateaubriand which is served for 2, and it was great as medium cooked. I would prefer it in thinner slices, but this one was also OK. Juicy, soft, and pink inside. We also got sides of Slow-Cooked Beef Shin and Stuffed Bone Marrow. Bone Marrow could be too fatty for some, but for me it was great as is. Beef Shin was a bit sweet, of being caramelized, i guess. I just didn't like that every single thing in the menu is served with some big amount of grilled/fried onion which I think is the signature of the venue. It was with every single thing we ordered - and it's too much of it at the end. With the desserts, they have quite a lot options again. we got creme brule and biscuit torte. Biscuit torte was a bit too sweet but creme brule was amazing. You also have options of ordering mini-desserts with hot drink costing only 6.50 and I liked this opiton. What I ordered was a full size of it and I guess it might be too big for some after eating that much.
What I didn't like regarding the venue is the service which makes you wait quite a long time for only asking for your order. It was too much of allowance for us to think :) Also, we have been seated to a table which was dark due to the lamp which wasn't working. I was told that the lamp was broken for some reason whan I asked that to be turned off - because it was just too dark without that working. And I didn't like that the staff had me seated there knowing it wasn't working while we had some other options. We had been seated to somewhere else then.
The price is higher than most of the steak houses in the city, but for an understandable reason after having this experience.
You can park your cark in the parking area of the court cross the street. Not an effort to complain for walking to the venue from the...
Read moreI've been meaning to visit the restaurant group for a while and finally got around to visit one, one I believed could deliver. Due to the diverse and numerous amounts of sites across the UK I'm very aware how service and food standards can vary for such a well known brand. First of all well done (pun intended) Chester Miller and Carter, hugely impressed, you met and exceeded expectations, Rob, thankyou for your professional, knowledgeable and positively understated service. We started our night with a bottle of Pinot Noir, not to everyones liking but for me it set the tone for the night, we drank this through an array of nibbles, artisan bread, which could have been a bigger portion for the price, padron peppers and garlic bread. From here we moved onto a bigger bodied liquid, the Zinfandel, really great example of the grape, one which complimented our selection of beef incredibly. Amongst sides of chips and lettuce bowls, we had a selection of fillet, ribeye and rump between us. Apart from some more chewy and fatty parts of the rump it was perfectly served, the fillet was as expected for rare, soft succulent and melt in the mouth. The ribeye was most impressive, packing in huge flavour with very little fat to discard. The whole butchers block came with onion loaf and a brisket marrow bone. So impressed. We finished it all and on average usually in a party of 4 someone has a complaint, but nothing, we all more or less finished. No wait times, no tardy drinks service, no returns. The restaurant seems to have around 200 covers, and about half a restaurant sat on a Wednesday night. A busy night might see a slow in service and a drop in food quality and I would always recommend booking. Will be visiting again but in Edinburgh most likely, can't wait to see how it differs. Great night, worth every penny. That's rare in this industry (again...
Read moreHalf of the food was good, although 3 out of the 4 steaks had to be sent back as they weren't cooked to the rarity that was asked for, they were very underdone. The sharing garlic bread was not brought out, and when we asked the waitress, she said the kitchen must have forgotten, and that it would be right out, without asking if we still wanted it. To which it was clear it was forgotten as it took until we were half way through the meal for it to come out. We waited 30 minutes for the server to come over to get drinks at the start of the night, at which point I had to get up to find someone, we then placed half the order(3 drinks out of 6 people) and the waitress said "hang on one minute let me just do this" and then just dissapeared. We then waited for 10 minutes before getting up to go and get what I assume was the manager, who did not apologise for the wait, or the poor service, he just made the waitress aware of that the fact that the drinks should be brought out within 5 minutes. A seperate waitress then brought the drinks over and the order was wrong, at which she seemed perplexed and annoyed by? we had to send back wine that wasn't ordered, she had no idea if it would be on the bill or why it was on the order, to which we then had to make sure it wasn't on the bill, which it still was at the end of the night, even though the glass was sent back. We were not asked through the duration of the night if we needed anything, or if we would like any more drinks which was highly dissapointing, as looking around it seemed most of the restaraunt was receiving excelent service, it was just the corner that we were sat in that had the same waitress that was receiving very poor service. I'm unsure if it was a one off or not, but this was highly dissapointing as we were there for a joint birthday celebration, we will not...
