I wasn't impressed. I'm from Mobile, Alabama and I'm making a point to visit as many fine dining establishments as I can. I have eaten five star hotels all over this country when I used to travel for business so I know fine dining when I see it and this is not it.
Their food is tremendously overpriced even for what it is. It has no flavor and they don't know how to season and I am not somebody who cooks with salt whatsoever in my home so when I say it's flavorless, it's flavorless.
I was smart enough to stick with a salad and an appetizer and a side of asparagus because when I'm seeing six shrimp go for like $50, I've had shrimp from all over the world and being on the Gulf Coast for real unlike baton rouge, I know how much shrimp goes for. We are not that far from the coast for them to be charging that much for the shrimp and I knew there was nothing they could do to it to justify that price. Other fine dining establishments I've been in for this area have had things like Chilean sea bass, redfish, etc and here they are upcharging regular Gulf shrimp when it is in high abundance for this area.
I was underdressed. There was a dress code, but I did not break it. I had just driven for 3 hours on the road and I wanted something good to eat before I sat down. They did offer me the bar and I did notice that people sitting at the bar had on baseball caps and t-shirts and whatnot. However, it defeats the purpose because there were dining room tables right behind us where we could be seeing. I told them they could put me in a corner and that particular restaurant had tons of little quiet nooks and crannies where tables were in order for me to quietly eat at a table without being seen. Technically, I hadn't broken the dress code. I was just dressed for a cold weather and I looked unfresh I guess is a better word to use because I have been driving in the rain non-stop for 3 hours. I didn't like the way I was treated, but I understand the dress code even though I didn't technically break it. My point is at the place was completely empty. Three tables were being used in the entire place. At other fine dining establishments when I showed up dressed like that, they told me since the place was empty, it really didn't matter and I was seated at a booth of my choosing and treated with the utmost respect.
I kind of don't like how you have to get the bartender's attention to make her take your order. And a fine dining establishment, I personally feel that they should come look for me, but I digress. She was very professional and she was tipped 30% in cash. For the record, I give her $20 bill.
The food was forgettable. I...
Read moreI have been to many great music venues including ACL live Moody Theater in Austin, and the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO. This would be my second visit to Stubb's Amphitheater. The concert event staff was horrible. First, we found an area to stand/sit on a concrete barrier toward the rear of the venue by one of the bars. We we there for nearly 3 hours and in the middle of the show we were told we had to move ? Wait a second ? We have been here for 3 hours. The entire time we were inside of the facility ? We moved, however, If you do no want people to gather in this area wouldn't you enforce this from the very beginning and not in the middle of the show ? By the time we were told to move the venue was full and there was no where to go ? Put a barrier there or have a member of the staff stand there all night and make sure people do not gather there ? It is not hard ? We got over this issue and were able to enjoy the rest of the Houndmouth show. When the show was over, people began to exit and there was a huge line to leave. I decided to go the restroom before catching a Lyft ride back to Round Rock, Texas about 30 minute away. I was told I could not use the restroom and that I had to leave ? What ? I cannot use the restroom after a show ? This is insane. What type of concert venue does not allow patrons to use the restroom after a concert ? I have never seen this ? I spent 90$ in the restaurant prior to the show and another 175$ during the show at the bar !! This is how you treat paying customers ? Here is a bright idea for a venue that has been open so long ....... Put an exit by the port-o potty restroom area and allow people to use the restroom, then leave from the restroom area. Duh !! Put a sign up that states the restrooms close at 11 pm ? Not rocket science. Respect your patrons. We have to use the restroom we are human beings. It is a normal function of the body !!! This was ridiculous and it pretty much ruined my night due to the 2 separate incidences with the concert staff. Absolutely horrible experience. I will never spend another dollar at Stubb's and I will tell everyone I know about this horrible experience. I have never been to a venue that does not allow patrons to use the bathroom facilities after a 4 hour live show. Ridiculous Stubb's, you should be ashamed. Get your...
Read moreDisappointing at best. I came here based on the restaurants reputation. I was actually really excited as, per the hotel front desk, "it's an institution". They insisted if I ate at only one place while in town, it be Stubb's. Well..... The building itself is kind of neat. It's obviously pretty old and have some neat architectural qualities to it. Real wood and all that. But it felt like because it was old, there wasn't much focus on upkeep. It's like going to a theme park where, if you don't look close everything is ok, but once you start noticing little things, the whole thing looks drab and run down. On to the food.... My server and all the reviews recommended the 2 or 3 meat plate, so I followed along. I started with the stuffed jalapenos as an appetizer. For dinner, I had the brisket, spicy sausage and ribs, along with macaraoni + cheese and fries. For dessert I had the peach cobbler with ice cream. The jalapenos were just frozen and reheated, packaged jalapeno poppers with an outside breading shell. They came to the table very quickly and were equally underwhelming. Honestly, you can get a whole bag of the exact same thing at any grocery store for half the cost. The mac + cheese was hot and palatable but the joy ended there. The brisket and ribs were both really dry. Even with a generous helping of sauce, I couldn't finish them and left both on my plate. The sausage had good flavor, but wasn't fresh and and was chewy. The fries were good and I finished them. I took the cobbler and ice cream to go as I couldn't stare at my plate any longer. The cobbler did have a lot of peaches in it, so I'll give that a thumbs up but it wasn't anything really special as I would have hoped from this restaurant. The one bright spot of my visit was my server Anthony. He was extremely quick and responsive. He also checked in often. He was quiet and not over-the-top and I appreciated his low-key personality. Very likable. Overall, my visit was pretty disappointing. It seems like Stubb's is trying to ride their own coat tails without maintaining the quality that got them to be a recognized name. I...
