I made a reservation at 6:45PM and was about 10 minutes late. I saw other people came in after me get seated before me, while they spent approximately 20 minutes clearing my table up and waiting for the customers to pay. All this for a "window seat" that we didn't even particularly requested, we just wanted to sit down and eat.
I appreciated the hostess for telling us the history of the building while we were waiting, but 20 minutes is a long time to wait especially when I reserved a table.
So we get sat down, and about 2 minutes in the server asked us if we were ready to order, we put in our appetizers and we did not see our server for another 20-25 minutes. We waited until he came back around, gave us two tiny hot pieces of bread with a side of hard butter, and he took our order without writing it down. The only problem I have with waiters not writing down orders is that they always get it wrong or forget something, which is exactly what happened. Also when I ordered the prime rib, he didn't ask how I would like it. We ordered one prime rib-- medium rare to rare, one ribeye steak, medium rare, one small clam chowder, and two specialty non-alcoholic drinks.
Appetizer took about 40 minutes after sitting down to receive, it was the calamari and it tasted great with good portion I would get it again.
I also got the clam chowder because it was supposedly "life-changing" and "best ever had." The waiter had to ask me if I ordered 1 or 2 clam chowders (because I was in a party of 2), and I had to make sure to tell him I only ordered one small. It was a flat 5.5/10 and was a bit watery and literally nothing special.
After that, we waited about 20-30 more minutes, we were actually full at this point because all of the calimari, clam chowder, and drinks settled in our stomachs. We thought we would receive our order soon until our waiter came up to us and asked us if we got the filet mignon and prime rib, NO ONE ORDERED A FILET MIGNON. We had to correct him AGAIN that it was a ribeye, not filet minon and he nodded and walked away.
20 minutes later he came back with a filet mignon and a ribeye and NO PRIME RIB. He placed it down in front of me and I was appalled because we waited so long just to get the wrong order even after correction, I looked up and said we ordered a prime rib, he stared back at me, rolled his eyes, stayed silent, and then walked away with the plate saying nothing.
Eventually I got the prime rib from him.. I think he plated it himself because the presentation was horrible and did not look like the photos, I thanked him even though the prime rib wasn't cooked the way I wanted (I asked for more rare).
All of a sudden, another server came by to serve me a prime rib that was rare (LIKE I ASKED) and also properly plated like the online pictures, and I wanted to swap it but I already took a bite of the one my original server gave me.
Towards the end the original server attempted to make conversation with us after we asked for a to-go box and the check because I think he wanted us to tip him well, which we would've if he was more diligent and mindful. After the bad service, his attempt at conversation seemed pathetic.
When he gave us the slip to write down the tip, he wouldn't stop bothering us and asking if we were done, we saw on the slip that 15-20% is complimentary, and we gave him 15% and was calculating it. He was being so bothersome and wouldn't leave us alone until we hand him the tip slip ourselves.
Before he grabbed it he said "18-20% is good", and then checked out our tip, and just nodded and said ok. Does he really think he deserves 18-20%?? Also, our water was not refilled AT ALL the entire time. I finished drinking my water after the appetizer.
While eating the prime rib, I mentioned to my boyfriend that I might return. However, after the server suggested we tip him 18-20%, I definitely won’t be back. I was unhappy with the service, and as the only Asians in the restaurant, I felt it was somewhat discriminatory, especially since we observed better service at...
Read moreWe were invited back to the Chart House after an unfortunate experience earlier this year. This time our experience EXCEEDED our expectations! We were greeted by the hostess who gave us a quick “history lesson” on the historic relevance of the building( I won’t spoil the treat for you- but definitely ask!) as she seated us upstairs. She was very personable and knowledgeable, sharing some fun facts on the history of Boston! She was delightful!
Our server was also a delight! She made wonderful recommendations for cocktails and dinner. The Pearfect and Chocolate Bourbon cocktails from their Craveable menu were crafted perfectly! I now understand why there was a special category for these on their cocktail menu! She was very attentive and friendly and we really enjoyed chatting with her! I ordered the Chopped Salad and it was large enough to share! I must comment on the dressing… it was just the right amount of dressing and it was perfectly paired with the chopped veggies! I was impressed with this as I usually have to either ask for more dressing or my salad is overdressed and swimming in dressing! My Prime Rib was perfectly cooked (M.R.) and the 10oz. portion was more than I could eat! ( it was just as great having it the next day for lunch!) My husband ordered the Filet Mignon with Chimichurri Butter and it was so tender he could cut it with a fork! The Chimichurri butter was delicious - you could tell the herbs were fresh! Both entrees came with three potato garlic mashed potatoes that were seasoned perfectly and handmade!
Our meal was not rushed, the timing on delivery between courses was perfect… and then there was dessert! We shared the Chocolate Lava cake with homemade vanilla ice cream! All I can say is OUTRAGEOUS! It was a chocolate lovers dream come true!
This experience erased the bad memory we had on our previous visit and we will look forward to returning on our next trip to Boston!
We would also like to acknowledge the sincere and caring hospitality the Managing Director, Brian Kirk, extended to us. He certainly knows how to treat his guests and insure customer satisfaction. Thank you so very much Brian for hearing our concerns and acting on giving us the experience we hoped to have on our first visit! We appreciate every courtesy you...
Read moreI have never been treated so badly in a restaurant before. My wife and I were celebrating her birthday and our 5th wedding anniversary. We chose the Chart House to have a special night out to celebrate. From the moment we sat down, our server was rude and brusk, rushing us the entire time. He asked for our order about 10 seconds after we were seated and given our menus. When we ordered, he was trying to get away as fast as possible, grabbing the menus and trying to leave before we finished our order. He wouldn't make eye contact and every interaction was transactional and rushed. When my wife was only halfway through her meal he started coming over to ask if she was done and trying to take it away. At one point he stood 5 feet away from the table staring at her as if to make her finish. We ordered dessert and he brought the check immediately and then kept coming back to see if we had paid yet. He tried to take the dessert plate away when we still had half of it left. He stood at the prep station staring us down to finish and pay, and we could see him expressing his frustration physically. We chose this restaurant to have a special night out and the whole time we were made to feel uncomfortable just for having a relaxed dining experience. We were eating at a normal time (it wasn't like the restaurant was closing and we were staying too late), there was NO ONE waiting for a table, plenty available, and we ordered expensive items (i.e. it's not like we were sitting there with an appetizer for 2h). The table next to us sat down at the same time and was taking even longer than us and their server didn't seem bothered at all and was nice to them. If you are paying this much money for a special meal you should be allowed to enjoy it without pressure and rudeness from your server. Whatever happened that he didn't want to be there, it wasn't right to take it out on us. All we did was try to eat our dinner without rushing. Food wise, the filet mignon was delicious but the salmon & shrimp was bland and underwhelming. EDIT - the owner requested I contact them through the feedback link on the website. I have already done this when I left the review and have not...
