Wow. Amazing quality of food! The current proprietor is a very nice individual, the son of Dave. Trever? He makes this place awesome. Very nice, no nonsense individual. He clearly loves his job and it makes the place all that much more amazing. He is a former wallstreet stock broker who came home to help the family. Quite a unique and great person.
The frying batter is seasoned to perfection and the oil temperature is just so. The seafood is fresh and tastes sweet with a hint of salt like the ocean it originated. As a Charleston native, I can say that this place uses some of the freshest seafood in town. The deviled crab is well done and is more of a cornbread or hushpuppy than anything else. For only $14, I was able to share a great meal.
Like others have said this is a blue collar place that has some plastic tables and is mostly to go. It is a place frequented by regulars and is simply a must go. For those who don't like seafood, the pork chop and wings are great from what I hear.
If you have any thoughts of going, take a moment and go to this place! I went during dinner and it was somewhat quiet, I hear lunch it is more busy.
Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!
Sorry for the mostly eaten dinner, it was so good I forgot to...
Read moreI forgot to take pictures before I started eating. Since the food is so good, it was all gone when I realized I didn't take a picture.
Calling on the phone takes patience and a few trys, but once your call is answered, the gentleman greats you nicely and takes your oder with efficiency and zeal. When you get to restaurant be prepared for a short and entertaining wait. Mr Dave, is cooking, talking to customers, taking orders and making you feel like you are the most important person. He recites the orders back with ease and little effort. He was so kind. The food. OMG. I ordered whiting, shrimp and red rice. It was outstanding and fresh. My mom ordered the seafood platter without deviled crab. Her food was amazing. The price, quality and quantity were excellent Have you ever reheated takeout, and it not be as good the next day? Well, that is not the case at Dave's. I reheated my food in the toaster oven, and was so good The tarter sauce ... it has to be homemade. It has a lot of flavor and a great accompaniment to my seafood meal.
So thank you so much for a good Friday night takeout in Charleston Next time I'm home, I surely...
