Brooklyn Dumpling Shop was an experience in itself. Basically, this is a self-order and self-serve dumpling shop. When you walk in you are greeted by a kiosk where you place your order. Once you place and pay for your order, it is cooked and prepped in the back and then put into a locker. You are alerted by a text message that your food is in the locker. Then you take your receipt up to the lockers and scan it for your locker door to open and release your food. It seems simple enough. However, if you are a newbie, expect some technical difficulties to come about.
They did have a pretty good deal where you could get a multi pack of different types of dumplings to try a little bit here and there. They do offer vegan, vegetarian, and even gluten-free dumplings. However, they were not readily available on the kiosk. So I had to enlist the help of the employees there. That was when Gabriel Menchaca the Standing Shift Lead stepped in and helped us complete our order. When he learned that I do not eat meat, but my husband does he was able to not only separate our orders so in theory, he was not cross contaminating; he was also able to recommend items that were not even on the menu on the kiosk. This was great! And it saved a ton of time.
All right so altogether, we ended up getting the following: Korean barbecue, Philly cheesesteak, bacon cheeseburger, macaroni and cheese, and peanut butter and jelly dumplings. We also got waffle fries and drinks on the side.
So it is a thumbs up for the bacon cheeseburger, macaroni and cheese, and Philly cheesesteak. It was a thumbs down for the Korean barbecue, unfortunately. And for all of those peanut butter lovers out there, you will absolutely adore the peanut butter and jelly dumplings because they were packed full of peanut butter! So much so it was hard to eat an entire one.
I can say that the cleanliness of the restaurant and the restroom was impeccable, and the service that the workers offered was equally impeccable. They were there and ready to offer assistance because they obviously saw we were not pros at using their kiosk.
One thing that I would definitely recommend this restaurant taken into consideration is the paper product usage. There was so much wasted paper products for our order. We ended up taking boxes home and still threw away multiple boxes.
All in all the concept is inventive. And I would recommend you going to try it out yourself before making a decision. The concept is very creative and it is a one and a million niche. Go give it a...
Read moreVery Disappointed. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place after seeing a TikTok on it. I was intrigued by the idea of self service with the food lockers and the ordering kiosk. I personally like to be independent in public so this was a great appeal. I found the ordering system to be self explanatory. The place wasn’t busy. It was 6:30ish on a Tuesday. The staff was very eager to walk us through ordering. I understand they had good intensions as most people could get confused. However, I wasnt a fan of the approach to the assistance. The lady who was talking to us was pretty intense to the point to where my partner felt she pressured him to order a type of dumpling he didn’t want. We felt rushed and overwhelmed by this lady pressing on the kiosk for us and insisting on diffrent menu items. The wait for the food wasn’t bad at all. Took about 15 minutes. While we were eating, the same lady brought over Buffalo sauce for my partners dumplings ( something he doesn’t like and didn’t ask for) and egged him on to dip his food in it. She stood there and watched him eat it and made us give her a food review on it. We couldn’t relax and enjoy our food without this waitress trying to upsell us or get us to eat things we didn’t want. We ended up leaving sooner than planned cuz this places vibes were off with the staff.
I ordered the soup dumplings. The waitress give me the heads up that there would be veggies in the soup and it would be spicy. I told her that sounded great. When I received it. It was simply, flavorless broth, a few shreds of chive and rice with dumplings. No veggies. It tasted the quality of canned Campbells soup. The dumplings had been sitting in the broth so long they were falling apart as I was trying to spoon them up. I ended up throwing them away. The French fries I got my dumplings with were good however.
My partner had the chicken Parmesan dumplings crispy as the waitress insisted and he said it tasted just like 7-eleven taquitos.
My parter later ordered a to-go of the Korean BBQ dumplings he actually wanted to try. After one bite, we decided our dogs would probably enjoy them more.
All the food here overall tasted like it’s frozen and then just reheated.
We spent upwards of $40 here for gas station quality food and an anxiety attack. I Definetly will not be...
Read moreWhat a let down. I saw on Instagram that this place was coming and I was really excited. I liked the automat concept and really hoped it would be good. It was not. I was there on 7/1 around 4pm and there were quite a few people in the shop and they all appeared to be waiting for food. I ordered using the kiosk and ordered the traditional pork dumplings, peanut noodles, and a mix and match of korean beef, pizza, and Mac & cheese dumplings. The order took almost 30 mins and I had to ask someone about it since my name disappeared from the board. The food was very disappointing. The pork dumplings had no flavor and the wrappers were too thick. For the mix and match, I can only comment about the korean and pizza dumplings since the mac & cheese dumplings were missing. The korean beef dumplings were the best but were very messy since they were not sealed properly. The pizza dumplings were not good. The filling tasted like a frozen pizza or pizza roll. The noodles were decent but lacked any peanut flavor. While I was eating they turned off the kiosks and told people it would be about an hour before they could handle orders again. There were also a number of people that had been waiting for over 45 mins for their food and I overheard them asking for updates. This place is really hyped up on social media and just does not deliver. They obviously have issues with service but that does not explain the flavor of the food since I assume their recipes are the same ones used at the other locations. I hate to give low ratings but this one is unavoidable. Update 7/11 Management was very responsive to the issue I mentioned in the review. They reached out to me and refunded my order. I appreciate the response and I will come back another time and give them a...
