Here in Dallas for the weekend. Met up with my girlfriends (last minute decision) and opted to try something new. I'm glad we did. Haywire was good food, good folks, and good fun! We met at 12 noon and to be honest, last minute and all, i don't think we made a reservation. If we did it was only an hour out two in advance.
The ambiance was warm, inviting, eye catching. It's grown. Finer. An adult vibe. Each area has a separate and different charm; the lounge, the patio, the bar, the dining table.
We were seated at an open window table, street facing. Perfect weather. The atmosphere was comfortable in the sense that it allowed for a sit back, relax, and don't worry about a thing type of experience. We talked, we laughed, and we ate. Yes, we ate!!!
"LaDarrius" was great! And new, which says alot about their hiring standard because he was knowledgeable of the offerings, capable of making recommendations, clear about alternatives and substitutions, and very helpful to us in making final decisions. He was very attentive to our table and making sure we were enjoying our selections and didn't need anything more. Before ordering he said that we wouldn't go wrong with any decision we made, and he was right! SIDENOTE: LaDarrius was very easy to look at! Handsome man with a beautiful smile. Let's just say, the click click click of his cowboy boots did something to me. Noooow I understand when men talk about the sound of her stilletos as she walked across the room. Definitely makes it hard to stay focused. My Taurus women will understand; drawn to fine food, fine wine, and fine men. I digress.
We ordered brussel sprouts (delish), kolaches & queso, fried green tomatoes, smoke fried chicken and waffles (think cornmeal like a johnny cake), Cadillac brunch burger, barbacoa grilled cheese. Every bite of everything was great.
Next time I'm in town, I am...
Read moreMy family met there yesterday for brunch to celebrate my birthday as a surprise to me. I had no idea where we were going. I usually vet the menu because I have a gluten allergy. I was so disappointed to find out that according to our sweet waitress, you did not have much if any gluten free options for brunch. For being a scratch kitchen, you would think your menu would offer more gluten free options like most other scratch kitchens in the area! My family had a great meal but I did not. For a bill around $300, you would think I would have eaten more than two eggs. I asked for extra crispy bacon and it was not. So I didn't eat it. Also, we were very excited to order the flight of mimosa and to try the prickly pear and hibiscus flavors. However, the waitress did not tell us that you were out of the flavors represented on the menu and brought us orange, cranberry or pineapple juices - two of which I cannot have. We would NOT have ordered it had we known and would have just each ordered a mimosa and saved the money! Finally, once we got our food, we asked for coffee and the waitress advised that you were out of coffee mugs and it would be a little while!! Really? Seriously? I felt like we were on a skit of Saturday night live! My entire family busted out laughing because you cannot make this crap up! Finally, I will definitely remember your mediocre (at best) restaurant for the laughter but will not be back for any food. Folks save your $$$$$. Spend it somewhere that caters to all in this day and age of allergies. I do not choose to be gluten free but MUST because I become very ill! Please try to step it up Haywire! I ask for others out there who suffer from celiac's and serious allergies!! Please try to do...
Read moreWe had a group of eight people for a birthday celebration. A bottle of wine was shared. With the hard liquor orders we were pleasantly surprised by the Texas ice cubes in the glasses. The food was good but the thing that stood out with the appetizers was the giant onion rings and the mini elk tacos. The Cervichi was served cooked which seemed really unusual and was unexpected and not liked. The BBQ ribs were good according to those who ate them. The hamburgers were okay. The meat tray was Texas style. I ordered the blackened bass. The shrimp I added to the dish was definitely the star. The broccolini was cooked perfectly and was still crisp. The French fries were rated high at our table. The asparagus was perfect! The green beans and corn were okay. The desserts included bread pudding and pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Both were really good according to the table. I am gluten free so I was disappointed when the waitress didn't offer me a scoop of ice cream while everyone else was enjoying their shared desserts. The server disappeared and by the time she returned everyone was done so it was too late to ask. The service was okay but could have been a lot better. The food overall was good but was lacking in seasoning in many of the dishes. The overall cost was reasonable for the amount of people in our party. I really wanted to rate this restaurant higher but there were too many issues and the service was lacking. One of the servers actually handed my hot entree across the table which was awkward! I think it was 3.5 stars overall, but not an option on the rating...
