Daughter Thai is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver & it has my vote for the best Thai food in town. We had lunch here over the weekend and tried out new cocktails & dishes we have never had before.
We arrived at Daughter Thai and were seated in a booth in the main dining room. The aesthetic of the restaurant was enthusiastically Thai with carved wooden lattices and red & gold filigree chandeliers.
Our mixologist & server Miguel was such a pleasure and ensured we had everything we needed while we dined. He whipped us up two craft cocktails that will be debuting on Daughter Thai’s menu for spring.
The Lean Green Machine was made with basil, aloe, cucumber, and white rum. This cocktail was refreshing and immediately hit the nose with basil & cucumber. It was an smooth sipper and a great spring drink.
The Last Goodbye was made with pineapple, yellow chartreuse, and tiki bitters. The Last Goodbye rushed onto the palate with bright pineapple. This cocktail had good zing to it - the saffron and anise from the chartreuse added subtle spice that lingered on the tongue.
For Small Plates we had the Bangkok Ribs and the Gyoza.
The Bangkok Ribs were made with glaze honey palm sugar black soy sauce, Chinese bok choy, and crunchy noodles. The Bangkok Ribs are a must order when dining at Daughter Thai - they were fantastic. The juicy rib meat fell of the bone with ease and was tender and sticky sweet with glaze.
The Gyoza were pork pot stickers served with house soy sauce. The fried gyoza had hot crisp exteriors and were filled with savory pork.
For Main Plates we had the Pad Thai, Khoa Soi Kai (noodles curry), Thaiger Green Curry, and the Chicken Pad See Moa.
The Pad Thai was made with small rice noodles, bean sprouts, chive, and peanut. This is the best Pad Thai I have ever had. The stir-fried rice noodles were piping hot and had the perfect balance of sweet and sour. The peanuts added great crunch against the soft chew of the saucey noodles.
The Khoa Soi Kai (noodles curry) was made with northern style curry sauce , egg noodles, shredded chicken, hard-boiled egg, bean sprouts, red onion , green onion, and crispy shallot. This was my first time having the Khoa Soi Kai and I loved it. The coconut curry broth was rich, creamy and packed with aromatics and flavor - I drank every last drop.
The Thaiger Green Curry with Jasmine Rice was made with grilled angus flat-iron steak, Thai eggplant cherry tomatoes, red bell, green bean, and Roti puffs. The thick pieces of angus steak had an intense beef flavor that paired well with the spice of the green curry and doughy roti bread. This was Ross’ favorite of the meal.
The Chicken Pad See Moa was made with flat rice noodles stir-fried with egg, broccoli, red bell peppers, green beans, basil, chili, and garlic. Ross ordered the Pad See Moa ‘Hot’ and this plate brought the heat which we both enjoyed. The dish overall was savory with major spice coming from the...
Read moreWe went here for a birthday dinner and, after reading the hype, we ended up disappointed in our experience. It’s a cool place inside, loved the aesthetics, but the food was so overpriced and a bit underwhelming. Bangkok ribs were good but not mind-blowing, so at 3 small ribs for $15, they just weren’t worth the $ - we had a party of 5, and no, despite our waiters attempt to upsell us, we didn’t want to spend $30 so everyone could have ONE small rib. The gyoza was good and Tom Yum Kha was flavorful - but nothing different than any other Thai restaurants (and we LOVE Thai food!) Our entrees came out very randomly - and trying to be polite and wait to eat until everyone had their entree left the first entrees lukewarm. (I see others commenting on this and wonder why they do it this way - bring all the entrees at once!!)
Khao Soi Kai - ordered by two at our table - no complaints but said they wouldn’t order again. Thaigerrrr Smile - fun presentation with a little flame production when they bring it to the table but that’s where the ooos and ahhhs ended - smallish piece of meat and sticky rice for $32? I ordered the Thaigerrr Green Curry after the waiter “highly” recommended it and I was soooo beyond disappointed! $38 for a small serving of an odd, mealy, gristly cut of beef. I can’t begin to accurately describe the texture) and a flavor that was both underwhelming and overpowering at the same time - I was trying to figure out if maybe the meat had spoiled as I couldn’t put my finger on what I was tasting, and I left most of it behind on my plate. Nobody asked if it was ok, and I didn’t want to tell the waiter his recommendation sucked. On a positive note, my cocktail was flavorful and we enjoyed the sweet sticky rice with mango at the end, and they did bring a complimentary birthday dessert and do a fun little lights out/gong to deliver the birthday treat, but overall we were all so underwhelmed. If you go, maybe stick with a more typical Thai dish rather than some of their “creative” Thai dishes, perhaps that’s where we went wrong. We left $315 poorer after tip (which only included 1 beer and 1 cocktail so it was not alcohol that drove that tab up!) - I was really hoping for more and wanted to love it, but we won’t...
Read moreI came in after class today to try them for lunch! I've heard so many good things from my friends and family.
Little did I know, they only did take out for lunch and dinner is dine in only. I wished someone had told me before i wasted time walking here from campus.
I went ahead and ordered the Pad Thai. I am Laotian so Pad Thai runs in my blood! I must say the food is what kept me rating a 3 star to a 4 star! Now why would I rate it a 3?? Lots of miss leading and service in next paragraph.
The staff was nice! No doubt about it, however the staff misinformed me of the pricing. I wanted the Pad Thai $14 lunch. Little did I know there was an extra charge for beef that I didn't know about, so my total came to about $17.75 (my change was $2.25, no recept given after giving $20 bill). I figured it was a bit pricey but I didn't mind since they're known for the "best" in Denver. Service was fast! I got my food in 10 minutes. After i left I was half way to campus and checked the bag and realize they didn't pack utensils or napkins for me. I walked back to ask for some and while I was waiting nobody came to attent me so I grabbed the to-go chopsticks and napkins beside the door hoping they were good to use. I decided to eat in front on the side walk because i was so tired.
I would love to try them again for dine in, and edit this review for next time. The beef was perfectly thinly sliced and something unique!! I had never had fried onions in my pad thai before, this gave it a unique crunch and flavor. I enjoyed it and would love to come back. Was expecting to get the quail and octopus dishes/apps, but due only to-go for lunch i only got lad thai. Will try again next time and update...
