I used to be a regular here and always came with my friends. Last night I had a group of around ten people. The doorman was rude to our group and we almost left because of how rude he was but decided to stay because we already walked over. Once we were here the bar tenders were rude. One threw the drink menu at my girlfriend in a hurry. On my way out I pushed the door out to leave and it hit the bouncer in the back. Apparently he likes to stand in front of the entry/exit door and customers are supposed to wait until he decides to move. The bouncer became upset with me for trying to leave. I stood outside for a few minutes and saw several more people try to leave and the door hit the bouncer in the back. I watched him get upset with them too.
It disappoints me to have to share this experience. This place used to be great. I felt like I was at view house or lodos the way I was treated here. There are many places around here that have a decent atmosphere and friendly staff. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else. Several people at a nearby place said they had a similar experience at Recess. I won't be back here and I'll suggest other places to my friends. There are many places in highland that don't need a rude doorman disrespecting you before you even step...
Read moreWhat seemes like a cool atmosphere upon initially arriving ended up being huge disappointment. 1.) Staff was extremely rude and aggressive, especially one who had a major Napoleon complex. 2.) Very bro-ey atmosphere where men are sexist and condescensing towards women (including the staff). 3.) It's difficult/takes forever to get a drink. I was given my card back with NO beer in hand and I had to wait all over again to get the drink that I already paid for while being ignored and forgotten. 4.) And ultimately, as many relay below, this establishment could use a huge lesson in customer service, which is part of what i professionally do for a living, so let me give the owner a suggestion. If you're a business owner and you see a consistent negative trend like below, you need to address the issue. Period. Additionally, you need to publically respond to all of your negative reviews instead of cherry-picking the ones you feel are worth your time. Everyone gets busy, but this is your public reputation on the line and future customers do take notice. Recess has a lot of potential, it's a shame there is a lack of accountability. To anyone reading, place your money into the pockets of another business and staff that...
Read moreI travel all over the country with my dog so I am constantly on the lookout for dog friendly restaurants. Some that tout themselves as dog friendly are little more than a table on a sidewalk where asking for a bowl of water is like begging for a bone. Not at Recess! From the moment you enter with your furry friend, you know both of you are welcome. Multi-leveled patio seating with lots of open area for pups to socialize or find a table tucked away in a corner for those shyest of pets. Stacks of water bowls and fresh water available -help yourself. Once you are settled in, the servers arrive with smiles and menus and quickly deliver your beverages while you try to decide what to order from the All American menu. I decided to build my own burger and it arrived cooked perfectly (medium rare) with mayo on the side (I didn’t have to beg for it!). The vibe here is warm and mellow on a Sunday afternoon. We quickly made friends with the people around us and their dogs too! Wish I didn’t have a plane to catch as I could have hung out for a couple more hours easily. I will definitely return and highly recommend this place for the food, the vibe, the service and the...
