Listen, I am writing a review because I would like to be honest about our experience and why we will not return. First off, the whole, "we don't let things die under the heat lamp" thing is a demonstration that the owners and chef do not understand firing off whole orders at a time. Instead of receiving our meal together, my wife received her sandwich 10 minutes before mine came out. It is inconvenient, especially if you are trying to have a dinner together and not watch the other eat. Other restaurants believe in the same thing and do not let food die in the window or under a heat lamp but fire the order together in order for the customer receive their food together not separate. This caused our food to come out extremely fast (normally I am ok with that) and made us feel like we needed to eat quickly rather than relax and enjoy being at such a cool spot. It just makes it super inconvenient and shows a lack of finesse when serving food.
I could have excused the service if the food was actually phenomenal because it really was sub par. Listen I love places like this and when someone has poutine on the menu I am right there but this was a disappointment. They lacked the basic seasoning of salt and pepper that would have made the gravy and fries taste better. Only a few cheese curds and the short rib was cooked to death, dry and lacked seasoning. I have had poutine from all over the place and yours was simply bland and nothing special. The shrimp po boy was good but the hamburger I received was over cooked, pork belly over cooked, the jam tasteless, and the pickled onions tasted like they were just dipped in the pickling juice. You should ask customers for the temp of your burger rather than assume they all wanted it medium and then over cook it (I prefer medium rare). The burger lacked basic salt and pepper to flavor the patty. Lastly, we had the potato salad as a side. Both our potato salads tasted completely different. My wife's was more spicy while mine was more vinegary. Once again, it showed a total lack of experience in the kitchen.
Drinks were ok but nothing to wow us. The mason dixon mule was overloaded with too much ginger and the punch was more sour than fruit taste with it. Still ok drinks just didn't save the experience for us.
In all honesty, I feel bad for giving my honest opinion about this place but it was such a let down and so over priced that I had to speak out about this place. If the food was good, we could have excused the high price but everything was bland and overcooked that it was just simply disappointing to shell out money like that. I sincerely hope they read this review...
Read moreWait staff didn't seem trained. We sat outside with our dog. We got a menu and then sat there 10 minutes before the waiter came, and we had to ask for a drink menu. We did order our food when he came up because we had plenty of time to look over the menu. He brought back the drink menu with some water. Our appetizer came out (Brussel sprouts) they were good but a little overcooked and warm, not hot. He then took our drink order. I got the high proof flight ($13.) 5 different tastings. My wife got the cocktail flight. When the flights came out. I by no exaggeration had less than 3/4 of a ounce total between the 5. None of them were poured the same. I know whoever poured them did not use a jigger because none of them were equal. I asked the waiter about it because it was extremely small amounts in each container. He said that is the way they do it because it's high proof. I smiled and said ok, that's disappointing." He asked if we needed anything else and I simply said the food. The food came out. We had the chicken sandwich with fries. It was well cooked and seasoned the fries were crispy but also just warm, not hot. But it was a good sandwich. My wife had the chimichurri bowl without meat. She also said it was well put together and tasted good. But hers was also just warm. The waiter came over one more time and asked if we needed anything and we were both out of water, so we asked if he could refill the water he did. But we had to ask. The place was not busy either. 12 to 15 people inside and 4 people outside including my wife and I. The bourbon is $100. A bottle kinda steep for a 4.5 year old. But I may have bought 1 if there was enough in my flight for me to actually taste them. I was excited to try the place out, and it fell flat for us. I also did not see a spot on the menu to buy a pour of the bourbon. I may have overlooked it. Not a good first...
Read moreWe have been trying to get over to Mason Dixon Distillery for the past 4 months. Finally got the time to go check it out.
Our meal was great. We had the Brisket tacos w/ street corn ($16) and the smoked ribeye sandwich w/ fries($15). The 3 tacos are big and well flavored. The street corn was good but I'd like to see local corn used instead. The ribeye sandwich was a big meal also and the horseradish sauce made it amazing. Very filling and good sandwich overall. The french fries are good but I prefer hand cut french fries.
The dessert we chose were 3 different liquor infused ice creams. The banana nut muffin is out of this world good !! Seriously could be boxed and sold in grocery stores ! The pancakes and bacon was super odd and had chunks of bacon in it. It didn't work for us eventhough I'm a bacon junkie. The coffee and doughnuts could use more coffee flavor.
The drinks were good but a little pricey for the size. We got the Pain killer ($7.50) and the Strawberry daiquiri ($9.50). The pain killer was perfectly blended and had great flavor combos. The daiquiri had real strawberries in it which is rare to find. Would be nice to have some whip cream on top. It was amazing regardless. We also tried there bourbon ($11). It was very nice and smooth. Just like a bourbon should be !
Next time we will go on a Sunday to try the BBQ.
