A fancy meal for celebration dinners with some caveats. My experience at Rick Erwin’s West End Grill had its ups and downs giving it a 3.5-4 star experience. When you first get in, the place feels fancy and it seems everyone knows to dress up a little nicer when coming here. I realized it was mainly because almost everyone there was celebrating something. This isn’t a bad thing, but it kind of sets the stage for the rest of the night. Our server was fantastic, we went at peak dinner time so I understand the delay, but we did end up having to ask one of the water busboys to find our waitress since no one had greeted us for awhile. All that being said, our waitress more than made up for it with generosity and a great remainder of the night. My wife and I ordered the porterhouse for 2 medium, bread, baked sausage rigatoni, a crab cake, and the carrot cake with some drinks throughout the meal. The bread was very enjoyable with Parmesan on top but no option for butter is disappointing. The porterhouse was hard to discover with the filet side outperforming the strip by a mile. Both were a little undercooked and under seasoned but still nothing a little salt couldn’t fix. The mashed potatoes garnish on the other hand might as well be play dough, minimal flavor and no sign of milk or butter. The crab cake was full of crab chunks so I definitely recommend! The star of the show was the rigatoni. I can’t put my finger on why, but the sauce and flavors were spot on compared to many Italian restaurants in the area. The meal was wrapped up nicely with a carrot cake that needed a little more sweetness in either the cake or the cream cheese. The only way for it all to mix perfectly was to get a piece of the brown sugar on top. Overall, not a perfect experience but I did like the opportunity to dress up and have a decent steak down town. I don’t know if I will be back but now I know what to expect. Come here to feel celebrated in a fancy restaurant!

I haven't been to this restaurant since my 21st birthday, they showed me such a great time so I don't remember that night, but I decided to give them another try. So glad I did! I sat at the bar, its really a nice vibe and classy looking inside. We started with chargrilled oysters ( you can order these by the piece), they were seasoned well and has some kind of cheese or sauce on top, the bbq shrimp were BOMB . It's 5 or 6 jumbo shrimp, a piece of crusty bread and a bbq sauce. It's really not bbq sauce though, more like a Cajun butter. They can call it whatever they want...its super good and spicy. We also had the calamari as an appetizer. It had fried jalapeños coins and pickled okra...the calamari was drizzled in a sweet Asian chili sauce and they were good and crispy . Next were salads...traditional Cesar Salad and she crab soup. The salad was a huge portion, it was good, nothing special, but the lettuce was fresh and the dressing was good. The she crab soup was also good...I'm not sure if they finished it with a splash of sherry or not, but the flavor was not as deep as I wanted. It was packed with lumps of crab meat though. Entrees consisted of Salmon Piccata on top of spinach. Salmon was cooked well, the spinach was also. My friend got the filet minion and crab cake. Their crab cake had no filling which is the best way to have a crab cake. We also got the potato au gratin. Super cheesy and tender. Dessert was creme brulee done table side! It had a great vanilla flavor. We tried 3 different drinks, but the only one we liked was the amelia earhart. Our server & the bar tender was super nice & attentive and the owner stopped by our table to speak to us. Great experience & delicious food.

Rick's is the place to go, my partner's cousin advised as a local, offering to treat us and our two friends to dinner along with his son one evening. Not the one in Casablanca. The one in downtown Greenville where we spent a wonderful week. Being seated at a corner table for six near the bar, we were served their crispy homemade potato chips while we ordered drinks. Disappearing quickly, they brought us a second batch. The Oysters Rockefeller was the most amazing dish of this fine dining experience. So fresh and tender, they could be swallowed whole like a shooter at a sushi bar, but then all that great seasoning, spinach and cheese couldn't be savored. The Nola BBQ shrimp, lamb meatballs and shrimp cocktail we all shared were also good. All premium steaks were cooked as ordered. The Delmonico Ribeye is the only cut offered on the menu as wet-aged (12 oz) or dry-aged (16 oz). Our table ordered two of these dry-aged, two prime NY Strips, and one 11 oz. filet mignon. Each one was tender and flavorful with excellent add-ons, from seared foie gras to truffle chive butter. The one pasta entrée, goat cheese ravioli with add-on chicken, was another example of fine cooking from the kitchen. Creamed spinach and au gratin potato sides worked well with all the dinners, in addition to the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon "Bella Union" three of us enjoyed. {Editor's note: I included two photos of our heated up leftovers in this review to show how wonderful the take home portions were to savor again.}

I'm going to start out by saying that, I'm highly disappointed at the manner in which my family and I were treated by the establishment, including the manager. We are a multicultural family and I thought the caliber of this type of restaurant were professional enough to look past that,but NO. they treated us differently because of the fact that my wife and her family are Hispanics. The put us away from everyone like if we were a nuisance or an obstacle to get away from. We were all treated differently in general. We decided to choose this location because we heard good things and that give an excellent food service and experience, but it turns out that they choose and select who to give an amazing experience to. Next apart from that our food took an hour and a half and I wouldn't complain if the food was at least good, but it was actually uneatable the manager would come by the table multiple times and would just say that in a few minutes. Over all the three times we were told "in just a minute" well that turned into an hour and a half I dont even know why my sons mac and cheese would take that long. We were told that it was because we were late to the reservation but that's not an excuse. We could have been told that we would loose the reservation. But instead they took ownership of having us and serve us and treat us like if we were inferior to them and they were cowards to NOT OWN UP TO THEIR MISTAKE. By this time I just wanted to leave. I've been to many fine dining establishments and never have I felt like this at all. At HALLS CHOPHOUSE with an even bigger establishment to accommodate would this have happened. HALSS CHOPHOUSE understands the true meaning of treating everyone equally, hospitality, and amazingly good food, and experience to all equally. Not just to pick and choose who gets treated with a special treatment. I ordered my food to go because I just wanted the night to end. I preffered to just eat at home. But even when I got home my food was ALL BURNT. I would like to let the public know and be aware of that if you're not a caucasian american you will be treated like this if not worse at...

I come here a lot and it’s never consistent. The food is good but it’s never consistent. The last three times, I wasn’t met with pleasant services. The place closes at 11 on google but the door says 4pm-until. I’ll arrive around 10:30pm on a weekend. One person will say the kitchen is closed the next one will say it’s not. The second bad experience, I was met upon entry from a bartender that I wouldn’t be able to order the kitchen is closed & would I like to stay. That particular time I was only there for drinks. It’s like he was saying that to me so I can leave and he can get off of work. The last time I went which was yesterday, the valet guy asked if we had a reservation, my guy lied and said we did, which he didn’t have to because, we arrived around 10:30pm and on the door it says it closed until. We were going to the bar for drinks and bar food. The valet guy ran inside to ask the people if we had a reservation as if we’re kids who need to be monitored. That really threw the energy off. I thought his jobs were to take keys, and park cars respectfully, not fact check to a place that’s still open. He could have handled that differently. The energy inside was the same as before, like please go home we’re tired, even the manager checked his watch when we got to the bar, so we left and went to Hall’s Chophouse. Hall’s chophouse close around 11pm, we arrived there around 10:40pm after leaving Rick Erwin’s. The valet guy there respectfully told us they stop valet at 10, like the other guy could have did instead of acting very immature. We walked in the manager greeted us very happy to have us, told us we had 15 mins to order, we sat at the bar the bartenders were ready to serve us, ready to get drinks started for us, they even kept trying to get us to order more. I said all this to say go to HALLS CHOPHOUSE INSTEAD! It’s way better service. Even the valet is better. It’s very respectful there. I’ll choose Halls Chophouse, 1000 times over Rick Erwin. You can even go to coral right beside Rick Erwin’s, unfortunately they share the same valet but the...

OVERPRICED......How can such a haughty restaurant serve bad bread? Doughy tasteless rolls with greasy shake cheese on top? Three people in our party this evening - the French onion soup was generic - it's better at Longhorn....the Ceasar salad was served in a tiny low profile plate, kinda looked like the lid of a Tupperware, nothing special.... next, our entrees - Lamb chops (which had good flavor I was told) was served on a pile of whipped peas I think? It looked so unappealing.... that member of our party did not eat the this and let the staff know how awful it was...they should change that dish to "Silence of the Lambs meets The Exorcist" because the green mush looked very much like a famous movie scene... Crab cakes for the next diner, the size of silver dollars....When we asked the server if the side dish could be substituted, we were told they would need to ask the Chef...I thought we were going to be brought into a negotiation room like in the movie LA Story.....the cakes were served with not enough rice on the side to even fill the plate...maybe it was a rare type of rice which needs to be used sparingly? The last entrée was goat cheese ravioli with sundried tomatoes with a few strips of chicken added for an upcharge. This was the most tastiest and also the least expensive dish...but it was literally a recreation of Carrabba's Chicken Bryan at twice the price.....I can see where patrons who can't cook for themselves might be impressed, but if you are handy in the kitchen, you'll wish you could get your money back.... we were seated in the first room nearest the door and again, ambiance was not special.....I have felt more impressed and comfortable at Marriott's....Also, the holiday music was blaring in the host area, so we were forced to attempt to chat over it... Needless to say, we won't be going back and would encourage anyone with culinary skills, who doesn't want to overpay for a meal at a local where to go, who to see haunt, look elsewhere for a special...
