Don Jose’s in Homer invariably serves up tasty food in a colorful and clean space where you can just about always get a seat. Consistency is one of Don Jose’s best traits, as my favorite tortilla soup and enchiladas are always delicious, Yolanda and the rest of the staff are always attentive and delightful, and they are open on busy days in the summer or during blizzards in the winter when other restaurants are closed. Don Jose’s is an easy spot to recommend to tourists and is a go-to for locals. My very favorite thing about Don Jose’s is their commitment to our community. Fundraisers, birthdays, graduations, family gatherings… Don Jose’s is an easy choice. I will never forget the staff donating a percentage of proceeds for a weekend to my dear friend’s young son upon her passing last year. Thank you all so much for that again. Don Jose’s is more than an easy weeknight choice for locals or a fun taste of Mexico in Homer for tourists, it really is a pillar of our little Cosmic Hamlet in Homer!…. And the...
Read moreI was skeptical in coming due to many of the reviews, but I thought I'd at least get a beer and check the place out. When I read the reviews on a place I read who wrote the reviews and I note how many reviews they have written. I'm glad I stopped. Sometimes, and especially being from Arizona, no matter how much you love seafood you've got to give it a break. Don Jose's is a welcome respite from seafood in the town of Homer. I had 2 beers, the carnitas dinner and a margarita and was out of there for just under $50. But it was good food. Contrary to other reviews, you must remember where you're at. I'm sure a sushi restaurant is hard to find in the middle of Nebraska....well I stumbled onto a good find here. The carnitas were cooked very well along with the guacamole that was on the plate...fresh! Rice and refried frioles were well prepared. I sat at the bar and was immediately attended to when I sat down. Food came out in a decent amount of time and was hot. I'm in town for another week, and I...

Came in, half the tables were open and were told by the waitress that they were really busy and it would be at least 15 minutes and then just walked away. We should have known then to just walk away. A different waitress sat us a few seconds later saying our waitress would be right with us. 20 or so minutes later our drink order was taken. Then another 20 to 30 minutes later our dinner order was taken. It took so long that time to slowly sip 2 cocktails. So after almost 2 hours we finally got our meals. Half the tables are still empty with not large parties (3 to 5 people) food was mediocre, kinda hot but not really. Then after a less than stellar meal, the check was wrong and they over charged us and we had to wait another 20 minutes for them to even see us trying to get their attention.
The bartender however knows how to mix a drink. I'd give...
