I was seated promptly by the hosts but that's where things suddenly slowed down. Despite several wait staff walking by it took ten minutes for my server to make a first appearance to get my drink order. He suspected immediately rather than taking my meal order that I had plenty of time to already to decide on. I never got a name or any of the usual conversation to establish some rapport. I don't know if that's because of English language issues or his dinner or phone conversation were interrupted. The restaurant wasn't busy enough at the time for him to have more than a couple of other tables to attend to.
I got my drink, made my food order (combo fajitas) and then got that promptly at least. My waiter was attentive for the next fifteen minutes but then went no contact again leaving me to completely empty my glass and unable to find him to get a refill.
When he finally showed up again, I had given up and just asked for the check. My change was minus the Bernie dollar amount and included no dollar bills. I just to enlist host staff to track him down to get change otherwise the tip amount would have been undeservedly high.
Speaking of which, he immediately assumed I was giving him the entire bill instead of asking for change. I'm not sure if this was again a language issue or what. I was past the point of being willing to give my usual 20 percent plus tip under any circumstances so made it VERY clear that I was expecting change at the bar. I left more than he deserved at about 14 percent given the doing of time he spent on me.
This is the second time I've eaten here and the second time I've had to sit there wondering if the server even knew the table had a customer for ten minutes or more this speaks to a frustrating gap in communications in the restaurant.
I get that having a policy of employing Latin servers means English speaking skills might end up being a challenge and am happy to with around that. What's inexcusable is not being readily available once the server knows they have a table sat and leaving them to their own devices for so long while not even putting on an appearance on the floor.
I had no name to use in asking for them and nobody else taking an interest in filling in the gaps or even letting the server know I way clearly looking for them. I finished my meal at about 8 PM so it's not like the staff was slammed or busy wrapping up for the night. If my server was busy eating, they had nobody covering for them.
The food was okay except that the avocado for the guac was so hard even the staff gave up on mashing a tablespoon sized chunk and just served it intact.
The chips were crisp and still warm but way oversalted leading to the need for a drink refill. The beans and rice were barely edible for this being a Texas based texmex restaurant.
Overall, I can't recommend the place given the prices these days and the much better service at other texmex restaurants in the area. It's okay if all you want is a quick meal whole staying at one of the nearby hotels before bed. . The three stars is a bit on the generous side. Avoid if on a date because you'll both end up frustrated,...
Read moreI saw all these great reviews before my family went in this past weekend. I'm not sure if it was an off day for the kitchen or what. Sat quite awhile for a server. So what I assumed was the manager was handing us chips (from a bag) and salsa. It was VERY spicy and the amount of water in it actually made our chips falls apart. No option for non spicy either and I had two kids with me. The waitress came with some white stuff in a bowl for the chips? Looked like watered down ranch. So we order the Queso. It was OK, but again super liquidy. Our food finally came out after we all had 3 chip refills and 2 drink refills. The food was horrible. My daughter's Quesadilla was SO SALTY. Shes 4, so for her to complain is saying something. My enchiladas were veggie and they honestly looked liked the Banquet enchiladas you get from the frozen food aisle at Walmart. There was brown, burnt liquid on top and all over my plate. It was supposed to be the sauce and it looked horrible. There was supposed to spinach in the enchiladas, literally 2 leaves on top melted with cheese. I couldn't eat the rice it had a weird texture. My husband got the Elvis special and he took 3 bites. Said it was the worst food he's ever had. We spent $60 on dog scraps. The hostess wasn't friendly at all. Service was Eh. The tables at the booths don't move. So good luck with that. The waitress behind us was abrasive and kept talking about leaving her shift. Our waitress was sweet, she was still learning and trying her hardest, she did well for being so new. The decor was VERY busy and a little overwhelming.
Again, could've been a lack of staff, new staff or...
Read moreThe service here is up to Chick-Fil-A standards. Absolutely top notch! And the amount of food you receive is just plain insane. Probably not a bad idea to skip eating for a day or two before coming here. The standard basket of chips and salsa were better than most places. It also included a cup of jalapeno ranch, in case salsa isn't your thing. Also had a chance to try a sample of each of their sauces (they have several), but really, their salsa was better than any of them. Nachos appetizer was different than what you might expect. Not a plate of chips with stuff slopped on top. No no.....this is tortillas, cut it half, fried till crisp, and each one gets its own smear of beans and cheese, and then you get some jalapenos, lettuce, pico to distribute as you wish. Quite nice! The Elvis Presley Memorial Platter was pretty huge. Rice, beans, three enchiladas, and a taco. All quite tasty, though their chicken could use a little work. A bit dry and underseasoned, like it was just boiled and shredded. But enough sauce can cover a multitude of sins! I definitely wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place, especially if you like tex-mex, but you're kind of bored with the shared menus of most other places. Chuy's got a little creative and made it...
