Modern Market Eatery - Power & Light — Restaurant in Kansas City

I come here about 2-3 times a week because it’s close to my house. Currently it is July 17th 5:15pm “close to dinner time” and I have been waiting at the register for 15 minutes now with no one attempting to take my order. I finally flagged down one of the workers in the kitchen, but from my understanding they are telling me they don’t know how to use the register 🤷🏻‍♂️.

It is a bit frustrating for sure, because if they weren’t going to serve people, a closed sign/notification at the register etc. would be nice but I just kinda stood there and waited patiently for 20 minutes without a peep from anyone.

I’m not saying I won’t eat there again because I do love their salmon salad, however spending $60 a week at an establishment and having the workers response be a simple 🤷🏻‍♂️ did kinda leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Hopefully if you see this review you do give them a try because the food is good. My hopes are that management may see this and remedy the situation as to avoid losing more customers. The food diversity downtown is nice and 3 other restaurants have already failed at that exact spot in the past few years, so I would hate to see this end with a similar fate. I finally walked out and went to chipotle. I eat there 4 times a week minimum so what’s one more day. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good luck y’all. I don’t own a restaurant so maybe I’m out of touch, but it really doesn’t seem like a great way to stay in business.

First time trying Modern Market I was blown away by the customer service Melissa showed me. I reviewed the menu before coming & she was able to navigate me through the most popular picks & the seasonal selections! I tried the Banh Mi sandwich with the side of kettle chips paired with their homemade hibiscus lemonade chefs kiss the sandwich is delicious fresh ingredients you can taste with blackened chicken, fresh cilantro, crisp carrots, a delicious avocado aioli sauce with a few jalapeños for kick and fresh basil! A great light lunch and what makes Modern Market even better is they offer Gluten Free options as well! If your someone who’s big on ingredient driven meals & knowing what your eating is fresh made to order this is a must try stop for your next lunch date! Modern Market Eatery in Kansas City blew me away! The food was soooo fresh and flavorful—every bite tasted like it was just picked, prepped, and plated with care. You can truly taste the quality and thought behind every ingredient. They also have a lot of great kids options.

The space itself is stunning—modern, bright, and welcoming, with a vibe that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. It’s the kind of place that feels good just to be in.

And the service? Next-level. Huge shoutout to Melissa, who went above and beyond to make sure our experience was amazing. Her warmth, attention to detail, and kindness made all the difference.
