22 October 2025 Post-movie dinner at Pachi-Pachi.
Atmosphere: Lively. Much more crowded at this time of the day compared to my first visit, and consequently much louder.
Ordered Wagyu Smoked Old Fashion ($16): Very good. Any possible smokiness in scent or flavor undercut by the buttery fatness.
Hokkaido Biru Bomb Burger ($19): Double smashed patties arrived cut in half within a cast iron pan, coated and swimming in beer cheese and aoili, topped with grilled onions, scattered microgreens, crisp vegetable slices and a few citrus strips. Meat at medium doneness. Buns had no hope of holding together, which made this burger a knife-and-fork meal. Overall ooeygooey, and if I would have a critique, it would be needing more of the crunchy/cool/sharp veggies and/or citrus, to boost the texture and flavor contrast to the otherwise unrelentingly rich creaminess. Came with an excellent duo of a metal bowl filled with house-made spiced chips and a cup of house-made wasabi ketchup.
Aya's Dragon Bloom ($7): Light and refreshing. Straw wider than usual, which made it a magnet to suck up every small piece in the glass.
Value: Decent. Something I missed on my first visit, but the menu prices apparently incorporate the business' credit card processing fee; the receipt contained a line of a small discount if the customer pays with cash instead.
Service: Hostess guarding the curtain-shielded entrance somewhat more formal than the freewheeling welcoming experience of my first visit. Asia(? I thought; the receipt listed Karyn) and Menz behind the bar were nice.
06 October 2025 (five stars) A recent opening Downtown, Pachi Pachi, caught my eye to the point of me trekking north from the Arts District to have a late lunch there.
Atmosphere: Striking decor which I will not spoil; once I learned Pachi Pachi's founder was Branden Powers, formerly of Golden Tiki and Evel Pie, the wack immersiveness made "sense". The facilities alone are a must-experience.
Food Plenty of temptations, but eventually chose the World Famous Floating Ghost Noodles ($20), with the optional 4x Jumbo Prawns add-on ($10): Bold claim from an eatery which opened only two months ago, but after tasting it, I'll allow it. Striking presentation using the mix of dry and wet noodles, goodly amount in the bowl, addictive garlicky/sour/sweet flavor, the four tail-on crustaceans were indeed very large and at perfect firm snappy bite doneness. Additional sauce came in a separate pitcher for diner's customization.
Drink Neon Whispers ($14): Refreshing yet with a sharp citrus bite.
Toho Tini ($14): Lovely blend of creamy vanilla and subtle citrus tartness.
Both were nicely buzzy.
Value: Food price may be a bit hefty, but so was the quality, flavor, and volume. Cocktails were a superb deal without any drawback.
Service: Absolutely delightful from the initial "welcome home!" from Brayden, to the attentive professionalism from him and Nat(alie), Nat's drink craft, and all around fascinating and friendly dining experience.

Read moreI took my sister for her 21st birthday. This would be her first time at a downtown bar. I’ll start with the good because it deserves to be mentioned but the bad was also pretty bad.
Our server, I believe her name was Pocket. I may have misheard her and should’ve asked for clarification but was frazzled, more on that later. She was so nice and especially helpful. I asked a very dumb question and she was super nice about it. Since it was my sister’s birthday dinner, she made some great recommendations. She recommended the deviled eggs, when I mentioned that I did not care for wasabi, she said it was just a hint of it. They were great. The tuna tacos were very tasty but get soggy (to be expected) so you have to eat them as soon as they hit the table. My husband got the burger and we loved it. The ghost noodles, chips with the burger and edamame were just ok. We got the Oni Spicy Margarita, Neon Whispers and Toho Tini, all fantastic.
To the bad. We had an 8:15 reservation. Upon arriving, there were a group of women in costume doing some interviews for a YouTube channel. They were blocking the entrance. As it was our first time arriving we were confused about how to get past them. There wasn’t a doorman but luckily an employee was also standing outside waiting for them to finish to get back in. He walked us around them. Entering the restaurant, the hostess was not at the stand, since it’s a pretty cramped spot, we walked past the curtains and looked for her for a few seconds. She approached us and was pretty annoyed and frankly a bit rude. She checked us in and we were walked to our table. It was not the best first impression for myself or the way I wanted my sister to kick off her birthday celebration. Luckily, our server and the food made up for the first impression and saved the night....
Read moreFinally stopped by my good friend's Branden Powers new spot Pachi Pachi!
In Japanese, "pachi pachi" is an onomatopoeic word referring to a sharp, snapping sound, like that of clapping hands or a light explosion, such as fireworks or the popping of popcorn. It is also used in the name of the popular arcade game, Pachinko, which imitates the sound of metal balls hitting pins.
As you arrive you are greeted by "Aya" our hostess and guide. We are visitors in her Ayahuasca journey. She welcomes you with vibrant colors, hidden symbols you will have to look for, and an array of sounds and vibes you will only experience at Pachi Pachi! As you travel to the Portal you will find yourself in a very peculiar area...Branden has always been known for his amazing attention to details...in his bathrooms!
Needless to say...these restrooms are no exception! The Portals take you through 4 different journeys as you are releasing toxins. Lol
The food and drinks are absolutely divinely delicious! Well crafted drinks and the imagination behind the Ghost Noodles(in pics)will leave you wondering and wanting more! The ambiance of the soothing house music brings it all together, along with phenomenal service and neverending hospitality from the moment you walk in, sit down and finally arrive back from Aya's journey!
There is a functioning telephone where you will receive a message from Aya and other little hidden gems all around that you will have to discover on your own! What fun would it be if I gave it all away!
Make sure to leave her a note on your way out and always tip your wait staff and bartenders!
Cannot wait to go back for the nighttime events and experience!
Thank you Branden once again for always making sure I am taken care of and anyone else who...
