Had high expectations. "Just OK" food, pretty close to what you'd get in a French bistro at a bad tourist trap, so not great. Maybe it's cuz of DineLA where the focus is on high volume/low profit, but the food was disappointing.
The skin of the dick confit was not crispy (soggy and mushy) and the beef bourguignon was dry and tough. The sauce was very one dimensional and flat. The octopus was pretty decent, probably the best of the night. Escargot was standard with basic butter and parsley. The shell used to hold the canned escargot was way too large for the actual meat. The sauce was also very lacking in taste and quantity. The bread was cold, hard, and too tough to chew or to dip in any of sauces. No butter was offered with the bread.
The service was friendly enough, but the food was slow (especially considering everything we ordered was pre-made and just needed to be reheated), except maybe octopus that needed a few seconds of flame to char the edges.
I know French bistro food is rare in Los Angeles, but this is really just OK food. I was surprised about the high $40 corkage AND 5% inflation "surcharge" on the final bill that I didn't see mentioned on the menu. Most likely won't come back for...
Read moreMy boyfriend chose this place to celebrate my birthday dinner and I am so glad that he did. The ambiance of the restaurant is both warm and intimate.
During our dinner, they only had one server plus the bartender was also helping her out. She did an amazing job at catering to all of the other tables' needs considering she was the only one serving the whole restaurant.
The food was top tier! Prices are reasonable, portions are huge and flavors were just moutwateringly good! We started off with a dozen of Escargot and a bowl of French Onion Soup paired with our drinks of choice, Blackberry Mint Julep and a glass of red wine. For our mains, we shared the Burgundy Pizza and Beef Bourguignon. Everything we ordered was so good and we were really surprised how delicious everything was! Lastly for our dessert, the server gave us a complimentary birthday Pistachio Crème Brûlée plus two glasses of bubbly.
Thank you very much to the team behind L'appart. My birthday dinner is another memorable one. I will for sure recommend this place to family...
Read moreVery high quality food with incredible attention to detail, very accommodating service with absolutely no attitude, and very aesthetic atmosphere with very good attention to detail. My dinner partner was late but they are very chill about sitting. While I waited I got the (Baja origin) oysters with a mango and pomelo gele, which I was a little concerned about being too sweet and strong to over power the oysters, but quite unexpectedly it was subtle. I was very upset that there was no French onion soup as I heard it was the best soup of that y type in LA, so we got the pizza with snails as an appetizer and it was delicious . For the main , I got the duck confit with a piquant red fruit sauce and it was outstanding... Not to rich! How did they do that? Partner got the lamb shank which was good too with its sauce. I'm still glad I got the confit. Will return for the bœuf bourguignon, which they make with red miso and butternut squash. Strangely inexpensive, or at least well priced. Reasonable enough that I could become...
