Tocaya Modern Mexican — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Great restaurant with a wide variety menu. I've been eating at tocaya since 2018 in the Mar Vista /Playa del Rey location. This Dtla location is one of the best atmospheres for dinning you can find. Wide open space. Tables. Lovely decor and the food is always amazing. I've had a recent streak of not so pleasing portions for my favorite bowl the Spicy Verde. Since I'm vegan it's hard to find good food la with macros for all the important nutrients. Tocaya fills that void for a good price. I left a review about my bowls and I was contacted shortly after by the Manager Andre leaving me a discount code ! Always appreciate when companies listen and hear out their patrons. Not sure if he also told the kitchen but the next bowl I ordered the next day was PACKED.

It made me very happy to have a healthy meal for an afternoon and was full for my adult male size body 5"11 150lbs.

It's already hard finding vegan food. Healthy and good vegan food is even harder. But when you throw on taxing fees onto AND shorten the portions. It makes it harder to support businesses and places eating out when I can do the same or more at home for less money or more leftovers.

Long story short. I deeply appreciate the efforts in keeping their customers happy and returning. It's a small part of what goes into building a great reputation for such establishments.

I used to love this place - gf fried fish tacos and a bunch of other no gluten options, all labeled, was a huge plus. I would even pay a delivery fee since they aren't included in the Uber Eats pass - that's how worth it I thought it was, despite being super pricey for Mexican. However, lately, they have been hugely disappointing. They barely give any cheese on almost all of their items - sometimes they seem to forget it at all - and you can't put in any order notes or request extra. This is a GF quesadilla I got without any other fillings just to test it out to see if they would give a normal amount if nothing else was in it. Seriously, a joke, and $15! I also have noticed a lot of it arrives cold now and is always dry. Really sad. Probably won't be wasting my money here again.

Update: tried one last time and the food was so disgusting. The GF fish tacos were good and relatively fresh, but the ceviche and everything else I got seemed like it had gone bad. The shrimp on the ceviche wasn't cleaned at all (see photo). The avocado on the salad was super brown snd the kale/lettuce was wilting (also pictured). Seriously gross and another waste of money. I’ve been here multiple times but to deliver this delicious smelling food.

I finally decided to give it a taste and I was not disappointed.

Let’s starts off with the initial impression of the establish and it looks clean and modern and I like the whole vibe with the music playing in the background and it makes me feel like one of the cool kids.

Next I want to praise the service that was provided and I want to compliment Alex (manager) and Michelle (cashier) for their exceptional commitment to providing great service. They gave me a great impression of Tocaya Orgánica as a whole and will definitely recommend them on this merit.

This is a fast food establishment and their goal is to provide healthy alternatives to those busy bodies that are always eating on the go and I really want to say I enjoyed the food. The one thing I would’ve liked is spicier options for the sauces.
