This review is for the Downtown LA location, address: 800 W 7th St.
I brought my Elder Cousin who is 82 years old in to try sushi for the first time and we were treated like trash. I ordered the spicy crabmeat tempura roll to start but was shocked when the roll came out cold. Wanting him to have a good 1st experience and also wanting a fresh tempura roll I told the bar tender the roll was cold and asked for it to be made fresh. The bar tender came back out and said the Manager, Robert, said it couldn’t be remade. I asked why and she said they were having kitchen issues. Meanwhile, folks around us were being served food so I asked to speak with the Manager.
Robert came out and told me they won’t be making the roll over bc the bartender told him I said the crabmeat was cold. I called the bartender over and asked if I said anything about the crabmeat and she said no. So Robert made that up. I asked him once again why I was being refused food and he then said he misheard his bartender.
Furious about even having to make multiple requests for food I asked for my check. Robert nonchalantly printed my check and didn’t even have the decency to take the roll off.
I asked Robert for the GM’s contact info and he told me they didn’t have a GM. However, on my way out I asked the hostess if they have a GM and she confirmed that they do have one. Thankfully she gave me the GM’s name and contact info so I will be reporting my bad experience to her too.
If you want to be belittled and disrespected by the staff or made to feel like your business is unwanted, come here. On the flip side, if you have dignity, value your money and who you spend it with, and want good customer service, don’t come to this location.
This experience was beyond terrible and I won’t be back to...
Read moreI have two things to start this review:
I don't like writing bad reviews, partly because I feel bad for the restaurant and the chefs, and partly because I have little practice with it.
It takes a lot for me to write a bad review. Most places aren't necessarily bad, just nothing special. For me, 1 star means really bad, but 2 or 3 stars means not terrible.
That being said, this is a 2 because the food was bland. The veges were bland, the chicken was bland, the noodles were bland, the spices were bland. Wait, sorry there were no spices. The good: our server was a pretty chill guy, so he didn't charge us for one of the entrees. That was nice of him!
We started with the chili lime chicken wings. The meat was very tender, exactly to my liking. But my eyes caught the "chili lime" on the menu, and both were nowhere to be tasted. I think their idea of chili is to put raw sliced jalapenos (which were spicy, obviously), and their idea of lime is to put sliced lemons in the dish.
My friends ordered the Singapore noodles, which seemed like a good dish because it had both chicken and shrimp! Lo and behold, tasteless. I've never before seen so much sriracha and chili paste added to a dish to enhance the flavor.
As for the sushi, my verdict is satisfactory. Not extraordinary, not good; just tasteful at best. The spicy crabmeat tempura roll and the lobster crab roll were definitely eye-catchers on the menu, but I hope there are better sushi items...
Read moreI dined at Wokcano on 7th in downtown LA for lunch today like I periodically have done in the past four many years.
I had an unexpected turn when I noticed I grabbed the dinner menu and not the lunch menu thats usually sat on the bar tops during lunch hours. I proceeded with asking the manager about the lunch specials she expressed I was mistaken and insinuated I must of been speaking of happy hour that started at 3PM. Immediately after I knew I was being thrown for a loop by the establishment. She then insulted me after I asked for a price change to honer what I was used to by saying "If I wasn't going to pay my bill I could walk out and never return". As a customer I felt awful. The staff proceeded to tell me every time I came into the establishment I had a problem with my food that left me at the end of the conversation scratching my head because that was false.
The conclusion of this is I believe the establishment on 7th exposed a prejudice nature to the service I received today that ive never experienced because Im familiar with the afternoon staff and was always treated with the upmost kindness and respect. That's what always kept me coming back. If you dine at this location be sure to always voice your opinion on the quality and service if you believe it's necessary.
