Today, I entered the gym and scanned the barcode on the mobile app for entry. After scanning my barcode, "Janet" immediately asked If I had my ID. I responded "Why would I need my ID?" I've visited this location and countless other locations across the country without an issue. She then proceeds to tell me that it's because there isn't a picture of me on file. I told her that's a complete lie, and showed her my phone which clearly showes a picture of me beneath the membership barcode in the LA Fitness mobile app.
She shrugged her shoulders and proceeded to tell me how there wasn't one on her screen and demanded that I remove my mask to take a picture. I've been visiting this location for months and she's personally checked me in numerous times before without incident. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable removing my mask and she said that I had to. Not once did she ask if I was vaccinated, take a temperature scan or anything to ensure the safety of other members before demanding that I remove my mask.
The pandemic is NOT over! Nor does she know my health status. There is a new variant of COVID (The Delta Variant) that is making headlines worldwide that's more contagious than any other variant. The gym was full of people without masks which is fine for them, however I choose to protect myself by wearing a mask. No member should be forced to remove their mask while the pandemic is still going on. This happened at the most heavily trafficked area in the gym... The entrance! The entire time that she was demanding that I remove my mask.. she was wearing one to protect herself. She's a complete JOKE!
I found this situation deeply troubling and I'm terminating my membership due to it. No one should have to compromise their health or deal with a rude and nasty operations manager.
I've personally witness her arogrant and nasty attitude towards other members but today was the last straw. This is Los Angeles... There are plenty of other gyms who appreciate members and respect their wishes to protect themselves.
There's a brand new gym downtown that everyone is talking about, so I'll take my business there. Besides ... This gym is small compared to the other LA Fitness Locations... Not to mention the Equipment is always broken, They still have not returned to regular hours and members have to deal with a nasty operations manager who foolishly thinks she's doing members a favor when LA Fitness is heavily in debt and needs every member they can get to...
Read moreSince this is the only location covering the downtown market of the densely-populated city the entire franchise is named after, you would think the LA Fitness in DTLA would be decent. Not so much. Of all the locations I’ve ever been to, this one seems easily the smallest in size. Which is wild because it’s also extremely busy as you can imagine it would be in such a commercial area. The size of this gym and the amount of equipment they have doesn’t come close to meeting the demand for the area.
To put it in perspective, I live within walking distance of here but this location is still a 3rd place resort for me, behind the ones all the way out in Alhambra and Mid-City. I go to LA Fitness 4-5 times a week and of those, I come to this location maybe 2-3 times a month. The time I spend driving to other parts of town is justified over the time I waste at this gym walking around waiting for machines or weights. The times when I’m too tired to drive and I think otherwise, I usually regret it as it leads to wasted time and/or leaving without having gotten my full workout.
Other than that, my only gripe is that maintenance is underwhelming. All the machines are up now, but when a machine is down, it could be months before it gets repaired. Again, this is in spite of the fact that people are circling the floor like hawks trying to find machines they can use. Their front mini-lockers have had a sign on them for weeks saying they don’t have the key to reopen any of the lockers (I don’t know if they lost it maybe). But you would think they would have gotten the key remade, or ordered and installed new lockers by now. But right now, if you forget your code or if your locker jams, I guess you’re stuck paying for your own locksmith to open THEIR locker for you. Wifi is also down right now too. There is no cell/internet signal (in case you like to stream music while you workout) because The BLOC (plaza where it’s located), is technically underground. So you have to try and bum off what little wifi signal you can get from Macy’s or The BLOC.
The only good thing about this location is that they have friendly staff. But then again, that’s not unique to...
Read moreFormal Complaint Regarding Unacceptable Customer Service at LA Gym
To Official High Management of LA Fitness, I am writing to formally express my profound dissatisfaction with the deplorable customer service I experienced at LA Gym. Having recently relocated to Los Angeles from Miami with a group of friends, we were eager to explore local fitness facilities and potentially secure long-term memberships. Regrettably, my encounter with your establishment has unequivocally deterred us from considering LA Gym as a viable option. On March 8/2025, evening time around 5:30-6pm, I obtained a legitimate three-day free pass through your official website, intending to utilize this opportunity to evaluate your facilities. Upon arriving at the gym, I encountered an unnecessarily protracted registration process at the reception desk, which consumed ten minutes of my time. Following this ordeal, I inquired whether I could proceed to utilize my complimentary pass and commence my workout. Shockingly, I was denied entry and informed that I must return the following day to repeat the entire registration procedure. This directive is utterly preposterous, given that I was already in possession of an officially issued three-day pass. The inefficiency and lack of professionalism demonstrated by your staff and management are wholly unacceptable. As a result of this egregious experience, LA Gym has irrevocably lost the potential patronage of myself and my companions—three prospective long-term customers. I feel compelled to caution all individuals contemplating membership at your facility to reconsider their options and avoid LA Gym entirely, as the substandard service and poor management practices render it an unworthy choice. I urge others seeking a reliable and customer-focused fitness center to look elsewhere and spare themselves the frustration I endured. LA Gym’s failure to honor its promotional offers and provide basic courtesy has left an indelible negative impression, and I will ensure this message reaches anyone who might otherwise consider joining your establishment. DO BETTER...
