RUDE Customer Service and UNPROFESSIONAL conduct. Full explanation below:
NEVER order through them for delivery, ALWAYS use a third party or the restaurant may mistreat and refuse to work with you if there is ever any problem with the order.
We ordered delivery through the website, which is the "preferred" method that the restaurant says that they want delivery orders placed through. We've ordered from them before and never had a problem, however this last time there was an issue with the delivery.
We had ordered through the website, and a delivery driver through DoorDash was assigned. Before the driver had picked up the order I realized I had forgotten to add a couple of things to the order, so I called and asked them if I could add it to the order and pay over the phone. She said no problem, they, would do that. I paid for the extra stuff and they said give them 10 minutes. I said that I would try to call the driver to let them know that it would be an extra 10 minutes but please let the driver know when they get there. When I tried to call the driver they didn't answer, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal because they hadn't picked up the order yet and that the driver would just pick up both orders when he arrived at the restaurant.
Instead, what seems to have happened was that the first driver arrived and picked up the order, the restaurant did not let them know that there was a second part of the order and instead just put in a second order, and canceled the first one. We did not receive the first order and a new driver was assigned who delivered only the things that we had added to the order over the phone.
When the second driver arrived with our order we let them know that this wasn't all of our order, and they said that was all the restaurant gave them. When I called the restaurant to ask what happened to the first order they said that they gave the first order to the first driver and the rest of it to a second driver and that it was delivered per their system. However when I explained that I never received that order the person I was talking to said "I don't believe you because you called and told me that you had forgotten things in your order". She was extremely rude and hostile and not willing to work with us at all. At this point it had been an hour and a half since we had originally ordered our food and we only had less than a third of what we ordered and paid for. Regardless of the mix-up (which is completely understandable when I called and added things the order) the way that she talked to us and treated us is completely unprofessional and unacceptable, especially as we had paid for everything including delivery fees. I don't believe the customer is always right, that being said, when there is a mix-up, being openly hostile and accusing the customer of lying is not the way to handle it.
Additionally, having an order system that delivers through a third party (meaning there is no order number, support from the third party delivery service, or a way to rate/get help when there is problem at delivery) and then not working with customers that have a problem with a delivery is a poor way to have delivery service. Because when we ordered through the restaurants website, it's technically through DoorDash but because you ordered through the restaurant DoorDash doesn't have any responsibility to help with delivery orders or to fix messed up deliveries.
When you order through DoorDash they offer conflict resolution should a problem arise. If the restaurant wants you to order directly from them they should offer the same or at least not take the stance of "Not our problem, take it up with DoorDash".
We ended up having to reorder the exact same meal and pay a second time through their sister restaurant further away and go pick...
Read moreI wanted to love this place. The atmosphere is great, and the complimentary green salsa is truly amazing. Unfortunately, too many aspects of our time here dragged down the experience. The margaritas are served alcohol free. Every single person in my party of 6 drank nearly four margaritas and then gave up when we realized we were all still stone cold sober. For real, what are margaritas for? Sugar and calories only?
We then ordered our food. The fajitas came out cold. There is no steam and no sizzle to these fajitas. They are completely cold. My friend’s food came out completely wrong. The cheese dip never came. We had to ask for it twice, waiting 45 minutes for cheese dip. She ordered the full chicken and rice plate with bell peppers, onion, and tomatoes. She simply received chicken and rice, with no vegetables or even the rice and beans that accompanies the meal 😂
We eventually just had to leave and go get food and drinks elsewhere. It’s a real shame, because I feel that the potential is here at this restaurant. The green salsa is incredible and hints at the potential of the kitchen staff. The atmosphere is very old school and amazing with a great rooftop view. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t seem to care too much about our experience. At one point, the food runner literally said “no” when we said that the food was supposed to come with vegetables, not simply rice. Why run a beautiful building and kitchen into the ground rather than serve great food, which I know they...
Read moreI was visiting Memphis Downtown and needed a solid dinner spot—Los Comales delivered! The food and drinks were delicious and super affordable, and I really loved the atmosphere. Here are my takeaways:
Environment Los Comales offers a spacious setup with plenty of dining options and multiple bars, making it perfect for any occasion—whether you're alone, on a date, or with a big group of friends. They can accommodate it all. The evening I visited was pretty chill (it was a weekday, so that probably played a role), but the vibe was authentic and relaxed.
Service The service was great. Since it was a slower evening, my server didn’t have too many tables, but he still went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed to enjoy my meal. It's a traditional sit-down restaurant service: you come in, get seated, place your order and enjoy. Everything was great!
Food Everything I tried was fantastic, and the prices were a breath of fresh air—especially if you’re coming from DC like me, where things can get pricey. I started with a margarita (huge and so good!), followed by some hot, delicious queso dip. For my main course, I had the chicken enchiladas with beans and rice, and it was all so flavorful and filling. If I find myself in Memphis again, I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu.
Overall Los Comales is a hidden gem in downtown Memphis. It offers great food, great space, and great service. If you’re in Memphis, it’s worth a visit—no hesitation. Go...
