600 EAST Cafe — Restaurant in Milwaukee

I don’t doubt that the food here is great. However— I stopped in to get a coffee this morning at like 8:30 and found a mostly empty cafe. I ordered a large iced latte with honey and then moved a little to wait for my drink. A few employees and customers entered and left. After 10 minutes or so it was clear to me that I was the only customer in the cafe, and my latte does not exist. The employee who took my order evidently had to leave promptly for mars or something. As someone who had the slightest chance of not being late to work before this delay, this was infuriating (not to be dramatic). I informed a different employee who was apologetic and made my drink quickly. My last bit of bad news is that it was the worst drink I’ve ever paid for. It was as though I was handed military coffee with a splash of milk, and no sign of ice in my now room-temp cup of liquid. Don’t know what...

I waited 25 minutes for a $16 sandwich during my lunch hour. Then I decided to simply ask for a refund. A guy behind the counter with a plaid, long sleeve shirt and a baseball hat cursed at me and told me that I could wait in line get the manager’s business card so that I could call and try to get a refund. He also cursed at his coworker who was tasked with running his slowly-made sandwiches to tables.

I had the chicken chipotle sandwich. The tomato ciabatta roll was delicious and all the toppings were fine, but the meat was super disappointing. Instead of a chicken breast or pulled chicken, there were thick, rubbery sticks of processed-looking chicken. The overall sandwich still tasted pretty good, but the look and texture of the chicken brought it down a star for me. Otherwise, this space is very open, airy, and pleasant, and seems like a nice spot for business lunches or morning...
