Read moreI also attended the Beards & Bikinis event and was surprised when one of the owners walked up to me, just moments before the event began, and told me no photography was permitted (he must have seen the camera I was holding). When I asked him why, he kept repeating "...out of respect for the privacy of the women". This despite the fact he had his own photographer running around taking pictures of other patrons and, presumably, the bikini contestants too, because he said if I wanted to see pictures of them I could look for some on the bar's website. The logic of that totally escaped me and I jokingly asked if we should all cover our eyes when the women took the stage out of respect for their privacy.
I mean, c'mon, who stages a bikini contest and then forbids anyone to take pictures? Even the contestants would probably have thought it silly. I've never run into that before, anywhere. It's his place and he can set his own rules, I certainly respect that, but it would be nice in future if they informed everyone ahead of time, on their promo materials, that no photography is allowed and not wait until the last minute to spring an announcement like that on the crowd. I wouldn't have wasted my time then.
I do give the owners (Mike, Seth and Jake) credit for even putting on such an event as it involves extra work and effort on their part but then why undermine it with such an odd and arbitrary restriction? I'm still baffled and...
Read moreI came to RWB with high hopes, excited for their advertised âTaylor Swift Nightâ which promised Taylorâs music and special deals. For many of us Swifties, this was not just another Friday out. It was the event we had been looking forward to all week. At 11 p.m., just as more Swifties were walking in and the energy was building, the DJ abruptly stopped playing her music. When I wrote âTaylor Swift?â to him, he casually replied that he had already been playing her for three hours. I pulled up the original advertisement to show him the promise that brought us all there, and he simply shrugged. The moment was surreal. The entire bar noticed. People were bowing to me and pointing toward the request, clearly on my side, but the DJ refused. A bride in a bachelorette sash stood nearby, looking crushed. She and her party had come specifically for Taylor Swift Night and they did not get the experience they were promised. Instead of a celebration, it turned into frustration. I felt completely dismissed. The marketing sold us one thing, and the reality did not deliver. Had I known the music would stop so early, I would not have wasted my time or money. For a night meant to be about joy and community, it ended in disappointment for many of us. The bar tenders were absolutely amazing as were the bouncersâno animosity with them.
RWB: If you promise Taylor Swift Night, give us Taylor Swift Night, not an early cutoff...
