We are traveling from east Tennessee and decided to do a little bit of nostalgic dining in ǰjour hometown. So we chose to go to good old George webbs on Old World 3rd Street. Where a lot of late-night, post-club meetups and breakfasts. When we arrived, we were NOT warmly greeted, seated ourselves, and were loudly greeted by "It's gon be 35-40 minutes!" No menus given, no drink orders taken, almost immediately, the soft voice from one of the 2 nice ladies who were already seated before us asks how long their food would take. The waitress snappily retorted, "Didn't I tell yall it was gon be a wait when you came in?" The woman said she only asked because she just heard the waitress tell us it was gonna be a wait. Their food came and was placed angrily and grumbly before the women. The waitress sulked and griped even more when she was told the pancakes were cold. At that point, we decided against being around negative energy and being prepared in that environment.

Im speaking as a tourist that went to MKE and tried this place. There were some good things and some issues. One good I have noticed is an interior that felt like somewhat of an American diner. I felt like the staff were a bit off. They were nice but not like really caring of my experience down there. Also the food felt a little mediocre. I had the breakfast menu and liked and dislike a few things. The hashbrowns tasted a bit weird compared to what I have at home. But still managable. They have wheatcakes (or pancakes) where I tasted the wheat parts in it. Eggs were alright. However, I did like the meats (bacon and steak). Mostly cause the seasoning in the meats had a unique flavor. So now if I did went back to Milwaukee. Maybe I would come back-"ISH".

I am a Milwaukee native. I described George Webb‘s to a friend of mine. I told him that it was like waffle House of the north. It did not disappoint. We went for breakfast and almost saw a fist fight with the weight staff. I don’t know what the buildup to it was, but it almost came to blows. It was dinner and a show. That being said, the breakfast was delicious as always, prepared perfectly. I’d eat there every day if they let me.

Careful, this review is long, but thorough.

The breakfast sandwich I had was awesome, and not just because I was hungry. My scrambled eggs were beyond fluffy, the sausage patty was seasoned to perfection with the slightest crisp to it, and the wheat toast might as well have been made by some sort of bread deity. It was so good that I had to order another one for the road. The restaurant is located in the heart of an absolutely stunningly beautiful waterfront city that made me incredibly homesick. Despite the rest of this review, I am somewhat considering returning solely for another breakfast sandwich and the refreshing walk.

In stark contrast however, the service was severely lacking. Maybe I caught them on a bad Sunday during brunch time, but everything just took so long. There were only a few other tables occupied when I arrived, who had already been served mind you, and it still took 5 minutes to get a glass of water. My order was quick and simple, nothing special or complex, just right off the menu, and yet it took 15 minutes from the time the waiter placed the order with the kitchen, to when the plate hit my table. By comparison, the bill hit my table in less than 60 seconds.

Now, I'm from the West coast, the central valley to be specific, so there might be some customer-business relations differences/misunderstandings taking place. If the non-take-out custom in Wisconsin or just within Milwaukee is to serve the bill before you serve the food, then that last part and the next part of this review can be chalked up to a difference in local culture. But if not, then what business does a waiter have with giving me the bill before I get my food? The sandwich was great, awesome in fact, but the wait was not. The issue persisted when I ordered another sandwich and a coffee for the road. The bill came even faster this time, less than 30 seconds, but the sandwich was just as slow as before. And the coffee wasn't anywhere to be found. I had two full phone conversations from the time I got my second sandwich until I had to ask for my coffee again, some 10 minutes after I ordered it. Granted, 4 more customers had walked in since my second order had been placed, but it's coffee, at a diner. I'm a patient guy, but coffee at a diner should be in your cup before you finish your next sentence.

Lastly, management needs to address the issue of loitering in and around the premises. I tried this place because it was around the corner from where I parked, and I love me some diner food. I did not expect to be shaken down by homeless people. I understand that times are hard and life is unfair, but I was practically accosted while entering, dining at, and leaving this restaurant. 4 or 5 homeless men were perched not 4 feet from the entrance, and 3 of them approached me repeatedly asking for assistance. One of them stood in my way as I tried to enter. Two of them actually came inside and began asking each table for money and food (during my 10 minute coffee wait). None of the staff did anything. Again, I'm not sure if this is a cultural difference between California and Wisconsin, but it was rather odd. And somewhat intimidating. Their plight put things in perspective for me, so I ate a slice of humble pie (obviously not from this establishment since it would have taken another hour) and I did what I could for them. But a woman eating with her son and a friend all remarked at how strange it was that the people in charge of the restaurant didn't seem to mind that their customers (now a dozen or so) were being mildly harassed.

This place feels like it has potential, but the combination of poor service and the ignoring of the loitering and aggressive (for lack of a better word) homeless people means that this place will sadly only ever be an expensive Carrow's with...

I usually like George Webb because of the wheat cakes and the chili but this place is in need of a serious overhaul. Tonight 4/7/2019 at 3am me and my fiancé decided to go out for a late night early morning breakfast. As we were taking our seats we witnessed two “ladies” who appeared very intoxicated talking very loudly With two “men” about sexual favors for money. The conversation was very inappropriate and in poor taste when people are eating. But we were hungry and decided that maybe We would just order our food to go. We sat down and watched Alicia wipe the counter down for about 2 minutes before asking her if anyone was going to take our order. She replied yes but she was only the dish washer but the waiter was in the bathroom. After about 10 additional minutes of listening to the guest who were sealing the deal on the sex contract the waiter (who wore no name tag) came out of the restroom. Alicia told him that we were waiting to place our order. He replied “ok I see them!” Then walked slowly behind the counter and begin to wipe down the same counter that Alicia had previously wiped down. My fiancé asked him if he was ready to take our order he replied that it would be an additional 10-15 minutes if we wanted to wait. Just as the waiter said this 3-4 other people entered the restaurant and walked up to the register. The waiter the proceeded to take their order. Alicia reminded the waiter that we were here first and were still waiting to order he mumbled something and continued to take the order of the new costumers that had just waked in. Alicia shook her head and said “you guys were here first but I’m not going to say anything” Just as we were standing up to leave and find someplace else to eat the waiter begin walking toward us. My fiancé asked were you coming to take our order because we have been waiting for 25 Minutes the waiter replied “I was about to come back there” . We sat back down only for the rude waiter to turn arid and proceed to take more orders from patrons who had entered the restaurant. After this interaction we decided we had waited and been ignored long enough and headed for the door. As we were exiting the rude waiter yelled out “bye!” I have never left a restaurant feeling so disheartened and disrespected in my life. I have been a loyal customer for more than a decade and I don’t believe that the treatment we experienced on this night was acceptable. I would really appreciate it if a manager would reach out to me as soon as possible to discuss this...
