The food here was delicious, but the service was horrendous. Granted, maybe that's what we get for trying to eat out at 9pm on a Saturday night. But after waiting for 15 minutes, we finally got menus dropped at our table by a server who hastened to warn us that she wasn't our server, but our server would be by soon. "We're really busy," she said. 15 minutes after that, a man (the manager?) took our drink order, brought our drinks, and then said HE wasn't the server, but the server would be by soon. "We're really busy." It was another 10-15 minutes before the server finally came by. Her first words, "Sorry, we're busy." No kidding. We were not pleased to hear that for the third, being "part of the problem" and all by actually wanting to order food and drinks. Needless to say, we didn't see much of the server for the rest of the night, either. We had to go to the bar for drink refills. The only reason she even got a tip was because we weren't charged for our beverages. I'm guessing that was an oversight, not a goodwill gesture, but free drinks are free drinks.
The saving grace of our visit was that the food actually arrived hot, fresh, and delicious and in a relatively timely fashion. (Thank god for food runners.) Because of that, we'll give the Bullfrog one more chance. The next time we go, we'll try to go earlier in...
Read moreTL;DR: Always have had a good experience here and would recommend; friendly service and good food compliment a decent drink selection. Come for the cheese curds, stay for everything else.
Burgers have always been very good here; the Tillamook Cheddar and Bacon burger was great and the 50/50 burger was fantastic. I typically get the tots as a side here and they have always been perfectly cooked and never soggy or overdone.
I think what stands out the most at the Bulldog, however, is their white cheddar cheese curds. I used to tour around the Twin Cities Metro Area trying to find the best burger and along with it, the best cheese curds. I based my cheese curd scoring off of the feeling that on a scale of 1 to 10, the MN State Fair cheese curds were my 10. The Bulldog, took it to 11.
One of the challenges with eating cheese curds is that the flavor often gets less intense as your pallet becomes used to the flavor; the amazing flavor of the first few curds diminishes with each bite. The Bulldog's curds seem to have gotten around this by having a very subtle zing to them; nothing too intense but enough to make each curd taste like it's your first one in weeks.
For me the stand-out winner at Bulldog is the curds, and everything else is just a happy, and...
Read moreSpencer was both the Waiter and the Bartender and we walked in as a group of 8 on a Sunday around 8pm because almost everyone else was closed. We will definitely be going back. Our server / bartender was absolutely incredible. He must have memorized our entire drink order in a half a second and then head the drinks there almost as fast as we read them off. The food was fantastic I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up cooking it himself. He was such a nice guy just really fun wasn't stressed out. And he was the only person really working and he had seven eight tables and 10 people at the bar and you never even saw him sweat not even a little. Or as we used to call it getting into the weeds. It's a really nice place very classy It's not over the top it's not overly big and it's not small. It's like perfect. We're so glad that we went to this place that we're going to be definitely going to the bulldog every time we come downtown for an event. Hopefully to see Spencer and plus the drinks and the food absolutely amazing and definitely a good price. You will not regret stopping into the bulldog downtown. Ask for Spencer tell him...
