I was here last weekend for a girls trip and had a lot of fun at this bar. It was busy but not too busy to where you couldn't walk around and get a drink. I had pretty good service and the place was clean and fairly large. My issue, which was a big issue to me, is not with this bar but with the band that was playing on Friday night, Lefty Ferguson and the right hand band. My friends and I were really enjoying our night there, dancing up near the stage and enjoyed the music because the band was pretty good. After being there for probably 45 minutes the lead singer asked me to take the tip jar around and ask customers for tips. I thought it was a little odd as I was a customer myself, but not a big deal. They were decent and I felt bad that they only had a few bucks in their tip jar. We got some money for them after asking everyone on the main floor as well as upstairs that we came across. I gave the band the can back and they dumped it in a box behind them on stage. My friends and I continued to listen to the music and dance and a few songs later the singer asked me to do the same thing. I was a little annoyed this time, as I just wanted to enjoy myself. My friend and I decided we would do it and then leave and go to a different bar because we didn't want to keep having to ask people for money. So we went around, asking pretty much the same people to donate tips and buy CD's. We couldn't get anyone to buy a CD and since we were asking mostly the same people for tips that we had just asked a few minutes go, we made basically no money for them. We put the can back up by the stage and left to go to a different bar. While standing in line to get into the bar next door I had a guy come up and randomly start yelling at me! It was the lead singer for the band, telling me I stole from their tip jar. He cussed at me, yelled at me for about 5-10 minutes, repeating himself multiple times telling me that "God knows what I did" and asked me for $200 to compensate for the tips that I supposedly stole from him. Considering everyone I asked gave me $2-$3 the first time, I have no idea how he assumed he made $200 on that single round of me asking for tips. I understand that this was probably frustrating for him, but it was beyond disrespectful for him to accuse me of stealing. I'm from a small town in MO, and that may be the way people in cities treat others, but it was beyond unacceptable to me. My friends and I really wanted to go to Layla's on Saturday night, but thought he might be playing there and stayed as far away as we possibly could. Again.. this is in no way the bars fault, and was completely out of their control.. but I hope they take this into consideration before...
Read moreWhen traveling to Nashville, Tennessee in the heart of the Lower Broadway entertainment area, you'll find a ton of honky-tonk bars around here. One of which is none other than "Layla's Honky Tonk"; a 2-story venue complete with stiff drinks, cold beer, comfort food, and of course some good old live music. Located at 418 Broadway in between 4th & 5th Avenues, Layla's is very close to the Bridgestone Arena and in the heart of the historic Broadway District.
I came here around 1:30pm during the afternoon of Sunday 9/26/2021. The weather was perfect, there was Titans football playing just a couple miles away, people were on the party busses, and it was an all-out fun vibe everywhere. And inside Layla's was no exception. The inside of this place is known for a display of hundreds of license plates; I mean you could spot literally every state in the USA. Add to that the colorful lighting, spacious seating area, and friendly staff, you've got yourself one amazing bar/venue.
Those that know me already know that I am a big time whiskey drinker. Since I actually do have family in Tennessee/Kentucky, this does not surprise me one bit. So I did what was right and ordered myself a Jack Daniels & Coke. I have to say, drinking this in Nashville hit differently than my home state of California. But it sure did hit the spot. In addition to their very wide whiskey/bourbon selection, they carry all types of spirits, plenty of beers on tap, and even wines.
What I didn't know was that they also serve food! Since my tummy was still digesting some Nashville hot chicken from a different place, I skipped on getting anything to eat. But they do carry comfort food classics such as fries, tots. burgers, and chicken. Not an extensive menu but a few options nonetheless. As I mentioned, the bartenders here were very nice, gave me a big smile, and I felt right at home during the whole time I was here.
But what makes Layla's an over-the-top experience is their live music. During my visit, there was a country/blues/rock band playing songs covering major artists such as Georgia Satellites, Black Crowes, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their music was pretty damn good and these musicians in Nashville really give it their all. And with that said and done, I am giving "Layla's Honky Tonk" a unanimous...
Read moreTruly an odd experience there on Saturday April 28th. We walked in and the band playing was amazing I mean it, probably the best ever. We had planned on drinking a water then order some drinks and food. Ordered my water perused the menu, bartender was super friendly
Then the lead singer decided to shame a group of women wearing cow costumes, who looked like were having a great time and bothering no one except the lead singer. He was rude and it was just unnecessary.
Like we know men donât give a F about us but we donât need you to announce it with your mic, which is exactly what he said. And while I realize this is your platform, I wished management would have told you to go back to what you were hired for.
Miss big pantsâŚIf you hadnât noticed during the course of your one Randy Travis song there were two groups that bought them all shots so it was fun and games until you opened your mouth. Then you double downed and tried to back pedal with what I can describe as the worse recovery in history.
As what started as a woman owned bar, I was frankly shocked to see this and I wonder if she still owns it and how she feels knowing this type of mysoginistic behavior is happening here. You can call me woke but frankly I...
