2025 UPDATE: Previously, I gave this place 2 stars in 2021. They've worked their way up to 3.5/3 75. They've mostly done away with those overly sweet novelty donuts and instead stepped up their basic glazed donuts. A fresh, warm. glazed Hurts Donut has become my favorite bakery donut in the city. (Since Blue Dot closed)
2021 Review: THE NAME SAYS IT ALL!!! These are NOT good New Orleans donuts like that of the old McKenzie's, Shipley's, The Buttermilk Milk Drop, or Blue Dot. These donuts look cute, but they HURT your stomach! Poor POOR quality ingredients, LOADS of crappy sugar, and NO real FLAVOR. They are just trendy and Instagramable, but as far as actually eating them... never again. We ordered a large box with a variety of flavors. The Jesus donut was the absolute sweetest! The Strawberry Cheesecake was the most artificial tasting and disappointing. No strawberry. No cheesecake flavor. Walmart Great Value Graham crackers thrown on top.. Just a large quantity of crap disguised as cool novelty donuts. Then I read they are from Michigan, no disrespect to Michigan, but that explained a lot. I'd take a classic donut from a place like Starbucks before I ever subject myself to another night on the toilet with these. FLAVOR over AESTHETICS!!! I gave them 2 stars because I do love the Andy Warhol theme boxes, but obviously, the bandaids over the donuts were a warning. Also, the best one seemed to be the Butterfinger/Bart Simpson donut. Still super sweet but actually tastes good when...
Read more👎I walked in here Two consecutive days Weds and Thursday 10/25 and 10/26....never received a greeting ...I was there long enough to take pictures and look around not a single word from staff....
Second day I come back 10/26. I'm early for my INTERVIEW!!! Yes here at Hurt's but no one knows me yet...I'm not greeted...but I'm second in line, a third and fourth person come in... I'm actually ignored and the Manager Sean helps the man behind me. When I give up on ordering donuts I tell the cashier I am the interviewee and leave my name for the Manager Sean approaches me No smile No greeting Has visible Contempt actually as if I'm bothering him I introduce myself he doesn't remember me or an interview scheduled or so he says. He scrolls through his phone to validate my claim
I tell him "Hey uhm thanks but never mind sir I feel awkward." and I leave. Later I call and express my concerns about my visit and how I felt it must have been my appearance that made him and his staff act the way they do/did....he is still acting as if He was baffled about scheduling my interview but tells me to come the next day for an interview
Now, Why would I do that ?
Terrible terrible company it's obvious the "donuts" are the ONLY good thing about being "Hurt's" but how would I know they NEVER asked me what I wanted ..... I Paid Two Visits and you act like this both times ??? that is Atrociously discriminatory behavior.
If I could give a zero I most...
Read moreHurts Donut shop is well lit with plenty of both seating to relax and snack, and space to walk around and refill your beverages.
The bright cups and shirts that are for sale, while adding coloring to the location is exciting. Added with the perfect room temperature tl match, this would also make a good late-night study spot.
When I walked in I was greeted by one of the business owners. He was great at establishing rapport with me without being overbearing. The staff was engaged and energized, but it seems like they may be trained to be overbearing with consumers to make a sale, which is not needed in New Orleans.
I was impressed by the variety and array of donuts. I purchased a glazed, red velvet with white icing, and a peanut butter and jelly. The icings were all PERFECT, however the donuts all were chewy to a fault and tasted dry. They were not stale, but something was definitely off with the dough. Myself and two of my colleauges tried it and all said the same. I will try Hurts Donuts once more due to the icing and potential. It could have been a small baking error that caused that over chewy and dey texture. I hope they...
