I was starving, the serving sizes were just right and I'm glad there wasn't more or I would have gorged myself. I had one of the specials for entre, shavings of raw skate fish with really fine slivers of red onion, tasty cherry tomatoes, parsley and served with a light refreshing sorbet. It could have had some lemon or vinegarette to lift the taste as the sorbet numbed my tastebuds. I needed to add salt. My main was very tasty, a lamb cutlet and two bite size pieces of lamb "breast" with some type of herb stuffing, lightly fried in breadcrumbs and really good olive oil. It was served on a very yummy celeriac or fennel base and a spoonful of bright green pesto that didn't have much taste. I was still hungry so ordered dessert, which I usually don't do. I'm glad I did, the old fashion peach pie was warm and the peaches had texture, they weren't soggy, it was awesome biting in them, the pastry was really nice too. I didn't have a reservation, it was really easy to get a table being about 7pm, Thursday night, it did start to fill pretty quickly. Not too loud, comfy chairs, a little flash, but still relaxed. $70 including tax, tip and water. It's only a couple of minutes from my apartment, I'll definitely be back. If you like the sound of Cafe Cluny but it's outside your budget, try Novella Ristorante in Little Italy. The same thing would set you back around $30, it would be a little more oily but the quality of food there is really great too and much bigger...

Ah, what a disappointment. Went to Cafe Cluny at around 4:00pm on a Saturday as we were around the neighborhood and wanted a light lunch. First we were told that they had a very limited menu because of the hour. The menu was indeed very limited. I ordered a salad and a chicken pilliard for over 35$. This was the smallest saddest salad Ive had anywhere in NY. It was essentially a side salad. Smothered in dressing, wilted romaine lettuce, and just small. Chicken? completely burned. As if that wasn’t enough (and it wasn’t— all the plates were lacking). We ask for the check and the waitress comes back with the apple pay machine trying to charge us $181 dollars for our lunch. I again ask for the check, because that amount makes no sense. After she brings us the check we see that we were being charged over $60 for food we did not order. The waitress also managed the unpleasant situation with disdain and never acknowledged the mistake. “I don’t know how that happened” was the response. Regardless. After paying a ridiculous amount for a terrible salad with chicken, we left and went to grab dinner elsewhere. Giving it 2 stars because Ive been to Cafe Cluny before for brunch and the breakfast is decent. But in all honesty nothing...
