9 Times out of 10, when you think of AYCE, quality is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind, right?
Knowing that - or at least with that pre conception in my brain - I made my way to Let's Meat, the first korean bbq ayce style that finally opened in Manhattan with no expectations at all, just to have a decent meal with my friends on a gloomy Saturday.
But boy oh boy was I pleasantly surprised! Let me start by saying that there are two options: one has the original menu (which includes pork belly, pork jowl, ribeye, hanger steak, flatiron steak... and more) and comes at 32.99$ per person. The other has more premium cuts like skirt steak, short rib, gopchang, squid, shrimp, octopus... and comes at 38.99$. Either options are great, and I'd say that unless you want seafood the OG is perfect. We did want seafood (and gopchang) so we ended up going for the premium option.
We also added a couple sides (most are included, just a few aren't): spicy rice cakes - aka tteokbokki, japchae, and sundubujjigae.
The meat, to my surprise, was really really good and the quality (especially considering the price) was great! The Berkshire pork belly is nice and thick and fatty, and goes perfect with lettuce, kimchi and onion (and garlic if you're not scared of it). The marinated bulgogi was very flavorful and not too sweet - which sometimes can be. The shrimp was nice as well, and every cut of meat was carefully prepared by our waiter who was super nice and made sure no cut was over cooked.
We accompanied our meal with makgeolli and soju (they have a combo deal for 15$), that were much needed with such a meaty feast.
I will 100% come back, this is such a great deal! And did I mention that for lunch they have a deal that's only 22.99$ for ayce???
Oh and the design is really nice as well, the tables aren't too crowded nor too close to one another. My only reason to not give it 5 starts are a couple: during peak hours they have a time limit of 100minutes which is not a lot considering you're eating kbbq, but you can always go when there's less crowd! The other reason is I wish they had a stronger AC, especially since the bbq plate is very big and extremely hot (thank goodness I had my portable fan lol). If it weren't for those I'd definitely give it 5 stars, price/quality are an...
Read moreI came here on New Years eve, with my friends at night. We came in and was welcomed and sat down and was told that last call was at 11, which is 30 minutes later. We said okay and ordered our food. The food was great and we had 2 servers since we were a large group. The female server was amazing, she answered any questions we had and was very attentive. She was a lovely server. However, the male server on the other end of the table was very rude. We came in at 10: 30 and according to google, the place doesn't close until 1 am. We were slightly rushed but no worries, we were eating heartily. However, the male server made comments, which was completely unnecessary. Comments such as "you better eat everything." Even before we sat down, my friend had tried to get his attention to bring another plate because we had a friend who was going to join, but the same rude guy TAPPED her and did a 1 second finger???? I don't get why you'd have to physically touch any customer. Simply making eye contact and doing a 1 sec gesture with the hand would he more than enough. Throughout the whole time, we could all tell the guy server was very annoyed and didn't even want to serve us. I know we're just one group of customers, but having an attitude when we did nothing rude to YOU is very unprofessional. We left around 12 AM and there were still other tables as well, so we weren't the last ones to leave. Props to another male server though for being very polite about kicking us out. I don't mind being kicked out politely but I despise condescending remarks being made. Of course, I understand that it was late night and everyone just wants to go home, but we were still eating. Loved the female server and wish we only had her. She was lovely
Read moreI came to Let’s Meat in NYC with my boyfriend because it’s one of his favorite AYCE spots. NYC has a lot of all-you-can-eat options, but I chose this place specifically because he enjoys it and we’ve had decent experiences here before. While the food itself was fine, our experience was completely ruined by one server’s rude and unprofessional behavior.
Everything was going well until a server came over to grill some of the meat for us. Without any introduction or friendliness, he looked at us and said, “You have to eat all of this, OK?” — in a tone that felt like a threat. There was just a small portion of marinated meat that we didn’t really enjoy, so we left it in a plate. My boyfriend politely explained, “We can’t eat that because we don’t like it that much. We had eaten everything else, so it wasn’t like we were wasting a lot of food.” Still, the server looked at us in a very unpleasant way and responded with a sarcastic, “Really?” before snatching the meat away from us.
It was uncomfortable, unnecessary, and honestly ruined the entire experience. We understand that most AYCE places have a policy about food waste — and we respect that. But we paid the full price and finished nearly everything we ordered, except for a small portion of marinated meat that we simply didn’t enjoy. It’s disappointing that we were treated like we were doing something wrong just because we left a little food we didn’t like. As paying customers, we should not be pressured or spoken to in a condescending way.
All of the other staff were friendly and professional, which made this particular interaction stand out even more — and not in a good way. We came here to enjoy a meal, not to be scolded like children. There are plenty of AYCE spots in NYC with better service and a more respectful attitude toward customers. Sadly, we won’t be coming back to Let’s Meat after...
