The reviews almost kept me from going here but I went ahead and took a chance. I think there are a few issues here that impact the reviews and experience and it comes down to an inconsistent level of service as well as inappropriate expectations from customers. This is a restaurant that at the end of the day is essentially a chain much like another national chain that’s famous for its breadsticks. It is by no means a classic Italian restaurant like you’d find in Italy or even “Little Italy” so if you’re expecting that, you will be sorely disappointed. I ordered, and would recommend, the manager special which is two pasta sauces on the same dish. I took the meat sauce and the mizithra and really enjoyed it. I think it’s the best dish you can get there. The pasta was Al dente, the meat sauce was simple and acceptable, but the mizithra really elevated the entire dish and mixing the two together gave me a unique dish that I’ll definitely go back for. The meal came with a small loaf of crusty and warm white bread, which is fine when slathered with butter but I would have preferred something more garlicky and seasoned. My big disappointment was the salad which didn’t have any tomatoes and was essentially a store bought bagged salad poured into a bowl and topped with a serviceable dressing. I say the service is inconsistent because while my server did well, I noticed the table behind me took forever to get their drink order in and they actually had to repeat it 3x to the server before he got it down right (2 unsweet ice teas with no lemon). Other people have mentioned dirty tables and I would agree that it was noticeable that two tables were dirty the entire time I was there and a 3rd was added by a party leaving before I finished. All that said, I would return for that mizithra dish in heartbeat, I’d ask if they had tomatoes to add to the salad, and I’d probably go ahead and bite the bullet and buy cheese bread, or I’d bring my own olive oil and garlic salt to add to their bread loaf. I can’t bring myself to give them 3 stars because I really like that pasta dish, but I certainly can’t give them 5 because if all the...
Read moreWe had the Pot Pourri which is a sampler of all the different spaghetti sauces. It was good. I would recommend the White Clam Sauce and Mizithra cheese sauce.
The Spinach Artichoke dip is extremely good. I would come to the restaurant for that alone.
I ordered the Meat Lover's Treat, which is there Ragu but with meatballs and Italian sausage. The Ragu was pretty standard, but the Meatball... OMG. One of the best ones I've had in OKC. The amount of meat they put with the meat lovers was substantial.
My daughter had ravioli and that was pretty good. Portion sizes were good.
We also got the large broccoli side which if you are a broccoli lover is really good. It was a huge plate of broccoli with the Mizithra cheese sauce. I would recommend for any family with picky kids. Luckily my kids love broccoli so it was even more of a treat.
I would order the complimentary Minestrone with your entree, but add the meatball. Like I said... the meatball was impressive. The Minestrone was really good too. My daughter's salad was standard.
The complimentary ice cream was a nice touch and the Italian soda we ordered was good.
Ambiance of the restaurant was top notch. My daughter really liked sitting in the makeshift boxcar train. The top floor has a nice view of Bricktown.
I am not quite sure why people rated it lower. It is a great place... especially if you have kids. I suspect that people came in expecting super fancy Italian food. It's really good for the price, service, and portion size, but it isn't Michelin star or anything. My wife and I are foodies and have eaten at some of the fanciest restaurants in town. That being said, if you have a family, this is an excellent place in Bricktown to eat. If you don't have a family, it's still a good place to eat, but don't expect super fancy food. You could still take a date here because the ambiance is great for a meal where you could just sit and talk to your date, but if you are trying to be fancy, don't go to a chain restaurant. Expect a good tasty meal that will satisfy with good service and...
Read moreThis place is lipstick on a pig. When you arrive the atmosphere communicates you’ve arrived at an upscale dining establishment. Then they give you a paper menu with limited options all charging over $20 for pasta dishes. Then you request fresh Parmesan ( like an upscale restaurant would have) and they tell you they don’t offer that, however they have a Parmesan shaker like every pizza place has. Then you request fresh cracked blacked pepper (like an upscale restaurant would have) and they give you a regular pepper shaker. Then the food arrives and the portions are average and the food taste fine. Nothing spectacular just average Italian food. We made a reservation for our party of six to celebrate my son’s birthday. I mentioned to the waitress that it was my son’s birthday and she said that during his meal they would come sing to him. Our waitress completely forgot about us after our meal arrived because she was given a party of 14. They never sang to him as they promised. The disappointment of the experience not being what we had expected coupled with being forgotten on a birthday celebration rubbed me the wrong way so I stopped the waitress and ask her “ did you completely forget about us after you got the party of 14” ? The question took her by surprise and she said “ well of course not” clearly lying about it, then she said we will sing to him during dessert. While he was taking the last few bites of his dessert she finally arrived to sing to him. So that’s why I say this place is lipstick on a pig. The food isn’t anything special, the service sucks, it’s expensive, but the decor is great. That makes sense we eat a restaurants for decor not good...
