DONOVAN’S BAR — AYYYYY OHHHHHH!!! THIS PLACE ISN’T A BAR, IT’S A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH A POOL TABLE.
We showed up at 9:45 PM, ready to sing karaoke like two drunk angels with emotional damage. The website said it started at 10. Wrong. Lying-ass website built by someone’s cousin with a flip phone and a hangover.
Instead, a band’s onstage shredding through genres like they’re fleeing from child support. The lead singer? Sounded like Chris Stapleton if he’d chain-smoked drywall and just found out his ex was marrying his cousin. It was so good I briefly forgot about my taxes and childhood trauma.
By 11 PM, still no karaoke. No mic. No setup. Just me, sweaty, slightly drunk, and staring into the void like I was waiting for a ghost DJ to descend from heaven.
But the bartender? A legend. A prophet. A man with the eyes of someone who’s seen it all and still shows up to work. Talked hockey with my fiancé like they once buried a Zamboni together. Poured drinks like he was trying to help us meet God on a Tuesday.
And the PATIO?? Oh sweet Lord. It’s not a patio—it’s a front-row seat to Florida’s finest people-watching circus.
One girl walked by barefoot with a McChicken in her bra and vengeance in her eyes. Three underage boys stumbled past, one of them clearly already concussed, lookin’ like he just lost a fight with a stop sign. Another had the thousand-yard stare of someone who took three Fireball shots and saw the face of Satan himself. I was clutchin’ my drink like a rosary just watchin’ them wobble down the street like newborn giraffes at war.
Someone honked. Someone else yelled, “SUCK IT, ETHAN!” A car backfired. A Croc flew. Again. Different Croc. Different trajectory. Still no reaction.
We didn’t sing. We didn’t leave sober. We didn’t even leave as the same people we were when we walked in.
Donovan’s isn’t just a bar. It’s a portal. A baptism. A street-level psychological thriller in cutoffs and flip-flops. You don’t plan to...
Read moreWe were sitting at the bar and had been for a while, the bartender was not pleasant at all but that was not the issue. We were not bothering anyone. Some military was standing up at the bar next to us and they were very nice and trying to get a drink where people had been walking up to all night and getting a drink. I ask the bartender if they could get a drink at the bar and I was not sure why he would not wait on them when he was getting drinks for people there all night!!! He pointed to the line at the bar and I get there was a line but you were waiting on people all over the bar all night. He was very disrespectful and very RUDE to us and our military for no reason!!! Then we were all kicked out of the bar had no idea why and then were told he said we threw ice at him”. WHAT our drinks were almost empty and the ice was all melted. I don’t recommend this bar as they are disrespectful and not considerate as they just wanted a drink and were ignored!! These people serve our country!! Terrible disrespectful bar ever!! We were at the bar for several hours ordering drinks and was sitting at the bar and tried to order drinks for the people that defend our country and they kicked us out and lied!! We would never throw anything at anyone! If I was the owner I would go look at the cameras that you have all over the bar and you will see nothing was thrown at the bartender. He just cost you money . The bartender owes all of us an apology!! Cameras prove it all!! Might want to reconsider who...
Read moreThis place doesn’t deserve a one star rating. We came from out of town for our anniversary and my significant other took me to do karaoke since it is something we both enjoy. He signed us up. I went to tell the karaoke host what version of the song I would like. The karaoke host reportedly didn’t have access to the original song, only the new version of the song. That wasn’t the problem. It was getting shoved because I was standing near her to help find the song. She acted as though I didn’t know what she said, had a condescending tone and told me to pick something different. She told my husband “she can’t sing the song she wants so she needs to find something different” with an attitude. She was mocking a gentleman on a second microphone during his song saying “sorry about this you guys.” Distasteful and pretentious. We didn’t drink the drinks we paid for. She seemed shocked that we opted to leave and not sing. We have friends in the karaoke business and have never seen anyone treated the way she felt is an appropriate way to...
