This is the first time I’ve been to Loco Pez. They have three locations. This location happened to be at 700 S. 20th St. On such a beautiful day, the outdoor seating was packed pretty well and it’s quite a large area as they have sidewalk seating and also street seating. This is a tree lined street so it makes a great outdoor area walking into the restaurant by itself you notice it has a little retro feel to it as you’re seeing in the pictures. Only a few people are on the inside understandably so because it was such a beautiful day out, we were seeing it immediately and our server, took our drink orders right away. Not soon after our drinks arrived, we ordered a gold rush, which is black tea concentrate Horchata, turmeric, and honey syrup this came with a nice cinnamon sugary crust on the rim of the glass. It was very tasty. We also ordered a fair dragon, which is a ritual, nonalcoholic, tequila, lime, simple syrup, and fresh serrano chilies. This was extremely refreshing for entrées. We decided to order a vegan tortilla soup with a guajillo pepper broth with diced avocado, Chihuahua cheese and tortilla crisps, and we ordered a side of vegan Sitan and vegan sour cream. This tasted just as good as it looked on the table as side condiment they have fresh puréed, tomatillo, and freshly made chili sauce in plastic squirt bottles. I love this tomatillo purée is such a great condiment. You can put on just about anything on myself ordered vegan tacos with chorizo, meat, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion, and vegan cashew cheese served on a soft tortilla shell. These were done perfectly and needed. Nothing as you see in the picture done just right our server was excellent and always tentative. Everyone outside was having such a great time. I must make mention there was street parking. That is free here for two hours and it was not hard for me to find a spot. Very surprising. I provided the menus in the pictures and you’ll see most of the menu is geared towards Mexican cuisine, but they have some other great options, including double smash burgers, fried chicken sandwiches and street dogs. They do also offer vegetarian items and all you have to do is ask about the vegan options as in most taco places you’ll find it an...
Read moreI believe this is my first negative google review ever if that gives you any inclination as to how rarely I do this and how bad this experience was. We thought to come here as we’ve come for big games before and it doesn’t attract a huge crowd; now I see why. From the time we sat down at the bar last night to the time we left we were treated to utter apathy that escalated to downright hostility. The bartender somehow had to be effortfully flagged down for every single drink and food request, though they were standing right in front of us. Never checked in and avoided eye contact. We were never brought plates or silverware after ordering so after trying to pass the queso back and forth between 3 people for a while I asked and received small plates. By the time the mains came my boyfriend had given up and just got us silverware himself from the station by the bathrooms. The cherry on top was when I tried to order a drink just as the second half of the Eagles wildcard game started and was told it was last call. I asked if they’d be letting people stay to watch the rest of the game. The response was ‘they won’t technically let me kick you out, but we are closing’. I was stunned. Now I understand they close at 10 and had it been respectfully communicated when we got there that they would be sticking to that we would have had time to make a game plan to watch the second half somewhere (keep in mind it’s snowing and most bars are packed). However I’ve been in tons of bars in Philly that stay open late for the game and the 8-10 other patrons in the bar indicated to me that might be the case. Guess they were all passive aggressively asked to leave as well. On our way out two women at the high top behind us stopped us and said they saw all of that and wanted to commiserate: they were brought their check, unprompted, by the same bartender, an hour earlier in the middle of their meal/drinks though they had plans to order several more drinks and were not leaving. Woke up this morning with a super bitter taste in my mouth for leaving the 20% tip I feel conditioned to leave- that’s on me (tab was $130). A shame as I’ve been a Loco Pez customer for 7 years but will certainly not be...
Read moreWe had the best time ever this Halloween with my kids! They organized a party that I hope becomes an annual tradition. Through Instagram, they invited everyone and created a wonderful atmosphere with fun activities for the kids, including a costume contest, a perfect kids' menu, treats, and of course, the best themed adult drinks.
Tyler from management did an outstanding job orchestrating this event. You could truly see how much he cared about creating a fun experience, even taking the time to go outside and hand out candy to the children passing by. He is definitely a gem!
I previously wrote a review on Yelp a few years ago, and I rated them 5 stars then, and it’s still 5 stars today. The food remains delicious, the staff is incredibly kind, and the drinks keep flowing perfectly!
I want to highlight two staff members, Lizzy and Ian. They each have different bartending styles but excel in customer service and craft amazing drinks.
Whenever we see Lizzy, we’re usually under tight time constraints, but she gets everything done so efficiently. It feels like she’s magically pushing the food! Even with the quick turns, our time with her is always phenomenal. She’s definitely a keeper! Her spicy margaritas, and pretty much anything she creates on the fly, are delicious. We’re always so excited to see her when we walk in, and she really knows how to make us feel special! Plus, I love the music she plays while she’s working.
I was introduced to Ian by a dear friend who absolutely adores him, and I can see why. He’s perfectly suited to run a full bar. Even on busy nights, like $1 taco night, he remains steady and attentive, ensuring everyone has what they need. His drinks are top-tier, and his spicy and strawberry spicy margaritas can't be beat! He is a sweetheart who genuinely cares about his guests’ experiences.
Thank you to everyone for making our visits so special! I can't wait...
