I Heart Mac & Cheese - Sacramento, CA — Restaurant in Sacramento

I am tremendously bothered and disappointed by the way a staff member at this establishment treated my friend and I. A couple days ago a girlfriend and I were running a few errands and we were in need of a bathroom break. We decided to pop into this establishment for a few minutes to quickly use the restroom and leave. As we entered the restaurant my friend made her way to the restroom and I sat down at a small table near the window. Immediately a staff member began rudely staring from behind the counter, then he came up me and said the bathroom was only for customers. I respectfully responded to him saying that is fine and we will gladly leave after my friend finishes up using the restroom. There was absolutely no posted sign anywhere in the establishment saying the bathrooms were only for customers. As I continued to wait for my friend, I noticed that same staff member staring harshly at me. Once my friend was all done using the bathroom, he abruptly walked up to her saying again that bathrooms are only for customers. We had no problem with that, we just needed to use the restroom really quick and leave which is not that big of a deal. Again there was no posted sign anywhere. As we made our way to the exit he then began to closely follow us out the door, all the way outside to the sidewalk which was totally unnecessary. As two young ladies who simply stopped in to quickly use the restroom and leave, the treatment from this man was as if we were criminals or had done something wrong. The hostility and micro aggressions towards my friend and I by this staff member were jarring, bothersome, and completely unacceptable. I am very upset with this incident. That level of hostility and micro aggressions should never be allowed towards anyone. Disappointed by this...

Worst experience ever! Wanted to come here since they have gluten free and vegan options. Upon ordering and it going through the line to the pick up area, the order was messed up. The guy ringing us up was nice and fixed the order. When it was time for our order, I received the vegan patty melt, my husband the broccoli bowl and my mom who is visiting and celiac was waiting for her sandwhich. They stated the wait for my mom's sandwhich was because they wanted to make her a fresh one, because they cut it with the wrong knife. The tator tots were cold, that was OK. I figured they were busy so...... then I looked at the vegan patty and it was still cold and undercooked in the middle (I frequently eat beyond patties, so I'm aware of when they aren't cooked properly). I approached the counter and told them about the tots which I was ok with, but the sandwhich was still cold. One girl turned and looked at me and said, "what do you mean it's cold". I flipped and my language was harsh but seriously the way her face curled and her question? She then said they ran it through twice. She grabbed a thermometer and placed it down through the meat and the bottom where the cheese was hot and said it was at temperature. She didn't even know how to take a proper temperature of the food. I wound up walking out and getting my money back. Will NEVER go back to this location again.The employees seemed very confused amongst each other while taking other orders. They need a bit more organization and training. I told the proprietor that I had never been there before and asked him how the build-your-own choice, which costs about $16.00, works.

After walking me through choosing a base, a sauce and veggies, he informed me that the build-your-own option included one protein. He up-charged me $4 for selecting a vegetarian option, the veggie sausage, without once mentioning that this would bring the cost of the Mac n Cheese to nearly $20 and was not actually included.

He had an open opportunity to mention the up-charge, since it was not busy, there were no people waiting behind me and I had asked him how it works and he had no difficulty explaining everything else.

I never would have chosen the protein, had he not said it was included, because it blew my budget, he only included 1/4 of the veggie sausage sliced tissue paper-thin and it tasted terrible.

I felt so cheated and bamboozled by the owner, that I will never go back to this establishment and try it for a second time. I work for a large company near this location that employs over a thousand people and have told many people of this bait and switch pricing and to not support this location going forward.

For the inflated prices, the portions are not at all generous. Even the no-thrills basic Mac n Cheese costs around $11.00 and did not taste any better than a side from El Pollo Loco for half that price and the same size portion.
