Carlucci's Bakery — Restaurant in Salt Lake City

I'm giving Carlucci's 3 stars because there were things I liked but things that I found less than stellar. Good things: The sweets and pastries they sell are cute and delicious. I ordered a lemon bar, and it was great! The breakfast burrito was pretty tasty too, though I probably won't get it again. The vibe inside the cafe is great. Lots of natural light, and it's very adorable!

Bad things: We went when it was fairly busy, but I have never waited 20-25 minutes before for coffee, not even at other cafes with 2-3 staff members. Normally, I am ok with waiting, especially if there are only 2-3 staff members, because they can only work so fast, but there were probably 6 people behind the counter at Carlucci's. It seemed very hectic, and we noticed that people who had ordered after us were getting their coffees before us. When we did get our coffee, it tasted burnt and one was mostly just milk. Overall, the lack of organization made the experience not as enjoyable as I think it...

I called them to ask if they make custom cakes and they told me they did and asked me what flavor I was looking for. When I told them the flavor, they told me that they already had some made and that they could just do the custom writing for me. So that's exactly what happened and they even went the extra mile with decorating it because they drew a picture that I asked them to! I asked them to write "Happy 60th to mom" on it. They forgot the "60" part which was totally fine because I concluded that I could just get numbered balloons and it was the best decision I ever made! My mom LOVED the cake! It had raisins and walnuts and delicious cream cheese icing. She wanted to know everything about where it came from. It was priceless. It was also the most affordable custom cake I had ever purchased: under $50! I don't know why Carlucci's wasn't absolutely packed because they also serve food that looks delicious and savory. I love their cupcakes and I am not a cupcake lover, their cheesecake is so good too. The staff was super kind to take extra time to find desserts I could eat with food intolerances. They said they make everything fresh here. Their chai pudding is very yummy tasting as well. I was not a big fan of the lemon tart, felt very sour and strong but I tend to eat more light flavors for lemon desserts. Felt a little funny having things rung up where I couldn’t easily see or tap to pay. Also a bit bummed out that their desserts can’t be ordered online for delivery as it’s a bit of a drive and def craving their desserts as they are so good. Even the store next door loves them.
