Major buyers regret. My wife and I have wanted to come here for some time.
We brought our 2 kids to treat them to a great Italian food experience. We had reservations and able to list food allergies before coming. The waiter acknowledged the peanut allergy and noted the legume allergy on the reservation and promised that the place was nut free.
For a high end Italian restaurant, the food was mediocre and the portions small. I had the asparagus soup which was bland and under seasoned. The complementary bread was fairly good, and was the most filling item of the night.
The Caesar salad my family got looked like it was straight out of a supermarket with ok dressing, certainly not worth $12 per plate.
When i got my plate it had one of my allergic foods as prominent on my plate, snd i sent it back asking for the spinach instead. They did bring a new plate but the portion was less than the prior food content.
The highlights of the meal were the ravioli , the 16oz steak and the homemade vanilla chocolate chip gelato was fantastic. My stuffed chicken was also pretty good with a nice sauce. There was a quarter of a roasted potato and about a quarter of a cup of cooked spinach. All under seasoned.
My son's pasta carbonara was chunks of highly salted bacony prosciutto in a very bland thin sauce. He loves pasta in nearly any sauce and only ate half because it was expensive. I later ate the other portion at home, and was very disappointed.
We ordered 2 of the molten chocolate cake which came with their fantastic homemade vanilla and chocolate chip gelato.
The cake portions were decidedly different in size. The cake was good and the pure dark chocolate sauce was nice. I've had similar quality at less expensive restaurants.
The service was pleasant. Our table was on a slight decline to my right and my chair was at a 10 to 15 degree lean which got more uncomfortable as the time passed. The seats were stainless steel metal. There was a single votive lit candle on our table but the other tables had larger more prominent ones.
The food was brought out on rickety carts covered with black cloth where they combined the sauce and cheese in front of our table but wasn't impressive.
The carved wooden molding at eye level and rustic Firestone pictures of the historical factory next door were nice.
The private dining area was impressively lush with upholstered seats, plush rugs and more luxurious wall finishings.
Overall a disappointment for a meal and experience that wasn't worth the $300+ cost.
We wont be coming back and will steer our friends and...
Read moreWhat a gem! I often travel for work and every city that I go to I like to dine at a local spot. This restaurant was suggested to me by a co-worker. Normally I don't do Italian since I'm trying to stay away from the carbs, but after I read some of the reviews on Yelp, I could not resist...screw not eating carbs for a day, my body will deal with it tomorrow!
When you walk in you are immediately greeted by the hostess, with a pleasant smile. This is refreshing because I have been to establishments where the greeting is lacking. We walked into the dining area and the ambience was perfect...not too dark and not too bright. The table was set up perfectly with nice white linen so that you would know that you are sitting at a clean table.
Opening the menu, there are so many items to choose from! All the selections sounded wonderful but when I glanced over at the next table and saw what they ordered, I immediately made up my mind. Seafood with pasta in a chianti sauce....absolutely fabulous! The seafood was cooked to perfection, not overdone which is important because there is nothing worse than eating a well done shrimp or scallop. The portion was healthy, enough seafood where I could share with my dining companion and not feel as if I had nothing left for myself. This was definitely a hit!
After dinner, I ordered the pistachio gelato...which was excellent! The server suggested it and I'm so glad that she did. It was smooth and light with a hint of pistachio. It was fresh and nothing tasted artificial.
Overall everything was fabulous....from the greeting, the food and the service from the wait staff. But I have to say that the thing that impressed me the most was the complimentary appetizer of bruschetta and a mini hot chocolate that came at the end of the meal. It lets me know that establishment wants the diner to have a nice dining experience and it's that little touch that makes you want to go back.
I will definitely be dining here again on my next trip back to Salt Lake City. I will also HIGHLY RECOMMEND Cucina Toscana to anyone that will be...
Read moreYou're better off at Olive Garden. At the time of writing, I'm 45 minutes into my dining experience, with no food. Our reservation was for 7pm on a Friday evening. We waited 10 minutes to be seated, and now I understand why.
It took the sever 10 minutes to even acknowledge our table and bring water. He came back about 10 minutes later to take our drink order, which he failed to get correct anyway. The wine glasses were dirty as well.
We were brought a meager amount of bread (maybe a slice divided into 4 tiny pieces) that was cold and relatively stale.
50 minutes later out server finally took our appetizer and dinner orders. The food ended up being pretty mediocre, with their "charcuterie and cheese board" being literally 4 grapes, some prosciutto, and a couple pieces of cheese, all of which was pretty standard fare.
When the main entrees actually arrived (an hour and a half after we were seated) it was really mediocre, with my "spicy" gnocchi being absolutely foul and the sauce straight out of a can, and the ravioli overcooked and sad looking, served off a rickety table with a used dish towel near my food, not to mention the server removing his mask several times to talk to us and other tables. It's obvious that their failing health grade was earned.
There appeared to be a general manager of some sort walking around, which he felt appropriate to both 1. Not help a clearly overworked and understaffed team 2. Wear his AirPods the whole time.
The sever eventually acknowledged (yet didn't apologize) for the wait, claiming it was because there were too many patrons without reservations, despite us having a reservation.
This restaurant used to be one of my favorite Italian places in Salt Lake, but unfortunately this service was so bad and the food not even good enough to justify it, I won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it. It must be new management or something because it's really such a different experience than the one I'm familiar with...
