Inconsistency thy name is Zimbu.
This score was difficult. If you love curry you're probably going to eat here anyway since it's so rare to have curry in a food court, and if you don't know what you want, I don't know if this should your introduction to Indian curry.
I eat here reasonably often, pretty much every time I come to City Creek, and no two visits have been the same. Ranging from my initial experience here which was quite excellent, to a few other visits which almost made me stop coming. But I love curry, so I keep coming back, hoping that this time it will be good again.
Am I involved in an unhealthy relationship? I might need to rethink my life choices.
I always order Tikka Chicken with Tikka Masala and Roasted Chicken with Coconut Curry. Between the two, the Tikka Masala has been a little more consistent. Generally a light tomato paste based curry. To my taste, I appreciate that Zimbu's offering has never dropped too deeply into the tomato paste as some recipes do. Today's version actually tasted quite good, but for some reason the chicken was cut into 1" thick slices of chicken breast and not fully warmed through. Very strange.
The roasted chicken this time was much better than it has been, still a bit thick in the cut, but reasonable, and today it wasn't severely overcooked. The coconut curry however was middle of the road for Zimbu's track record. Tasting more like a sour cream sauce than a coconut curry, but not diving to the depths of crazy that they have served me in the past.
Truth is that 3 stars is generous for what I've been served here before, but I can hope for better things in the future right? Hope is rarely a personality trait of my reviews, but today was... OK. And I know I will eat here again because I love curry, so how could give less...
Read moreI was really excited to find this place - most of the Indian restaurants were closed, when I was trying a find a decent restaurant to order from.
Made my order online. Was waiting for a confirmation email. I saw a hold on my account for the total amount of order…No problem - right?
WRONG!!…Got to City Creek. Had to park in the underground parking, as there’s no parking nearby. Found that the order had been cancelled. Couldn’t figure out why, after driving for 20 minutes to this place why the order had been cancelled.
It turns out that what they list online is not available. (Wish they could have called ahead & told me that & that they could cancel the order instead of having me drive all the way down there, only to find this out for myself.)
My advice? If you want real service - & honesty - go somewhere else! Seems to me that this place has no problem with false advertising. (They don’t even want to pull the menu off Google, because they know it will hurt their business…False advertising doesn’t help business...
Read moreI hate that I have to write this, because I love Indian food. Decided to give this place a shot last night, my husband ordered the vegetable stir fry and I got the Chana masala. Don’t bother getting the kiwi lemonade, it literally tastes exactly like Costco lemonade. The stir fry vegetables weren’t fully cooked. I ordered a base of basmati rice, but I don’t believe that that’s what I got. Why? My husband got the Palau base, I ordered basmati, and we got the exact same thing. That should’ve been red flag #1. Red flag #2 was the lemonade. The worst thing of all though, is that I’m writing this review the next day from bed; I’ve only been in my bed and in the bathroom all day. I’m not sure what was wrong with the food (I got the Chana masala and the coconut curry sauce), but it’s been about 22 hours since I’ve eaten there and there’s no end in sight. Something must not have been stored at the correct temperature or contaminated somehow. I wanted to like this place, but my stomach cramps have convinced...
