California Burrito Rating (13)
On a mission to rank San Diego's California Burritos!
Stop number thirteen: Vega Caffe Mexican Deli. Product: After waiting a few minutes, they brought out what looked like a pretty big burrito. But it was cold. The meat was warm, but everything else was straight out of the fridge. The ingredients were all over the place—dry meat and the flavors didn’t really vibe together. Nothing 'clicked' in this burrito. I managed to finish it though, which is rare for me with a burrito this big. Price is a little above the average for the city—about $16 with tax. 7 out of 10 Service: Chill and friendly. They were attentive and easy to talk to. 7 out of 10 Atmosphere: Totally a baseball vibe here. Nice, comfy spot with high ceilings. You can tell they try to keep it...

Ordered two burritos, the time it took for them to be prepared was quite long. Got home started eating. The burritos are super greasy. The grease is slippery and soaks through the parchment paper its wrapped in. Full of huge chunks of oily half raw warm onion. And the worst is yet to come huge chunks of warm crunchy green peppers. Why would green peppers be in a burrito?! It gets worse the sticker was still on one of the pieces. The produce wasn't washed!! Gross. They're taking a lot of time to put the food together but the produce isn't washed...

Drinks, everywhere are with too much sick, this one I only had a one half one and the beer was undoable and pretty sick, the other part of putting my bag on seat not bathroom really quick is ridiculous to me. Menu was not available, you supposedly have to go to cashier menu just to look, $9 bean and cheese burrito i would only get if I knew it was big at that huge retail for a Taco Bell maybe size bean and cheese. Padres about forth game of season was on. Rumor has it a tech league full stadium staff cheat was on to win the game, they usually...

They're taking a lot of time to put the food together but the produce isn't washed properly?? No thanks.

Went in for a late lunch on their opening week. Big menu of both deli selections (sandwiches and salads) and Mexican food. Decided to try the carne asada burrito. It was good sized and had great flavor. The staff was very friendly and I saw them helping people understand the menu and suggest variations on sandwiches. Not as busy as I expected but only noticed they were open when I walked by. Interior has mild refresh from when it was Lolitas. Definitely more choices of food including breakfasts and smoothies. Service was quick.
