I had a couple pizza slices from here - the fun guy, which had mushrooms & Jamaican curry, and the works, which had beef, burger sauce, and banana peppers + onions These were Roman-style, a style not often found around here. it has long, thinner slices that are rectangular shaped.
The part I liked the most on each pizza was the crust. It was really good - very airy, and super easy to eat. The crunch, especially around the edges, was fantastic. The undercarriage was also cooked really well - there was a certain char to it to give it hardness but not make it overly chewy or burnt. It's like eating into a much lighter version of a Detroit-style pizza
Both slices were pretty good, but I think I liked the fun guy slightly more. While mushrooms are standard on pizza, the incorporation of the Jamaican curry in here was fascinating. It's not something that you typically see on pizza, and it's not just thrown on as a topping here - it's mixed underneath the cheese. this makes it so each bite has a great combination of flavors - from cheesy, to umami, to spicy from the curry. And while I wouldn't call it spicy food, you do feel the spice from the curry, which makes it super interesting
On the other slice - it was decent, but the burger sauce didn't compare flavor-wise to the Jamaican curry. Also, the beef and onions were charred too much to really taste them - especially the beef - which wasn't super noticeable The cheese was melted perfectly on both slices, though
The only other thing was that even 2 minutes after getting the slices, they were at a lukewarm temperature. I had to put these in my air fryer for a while before they could actually be warm, and I don't think they were reheated for long enough after I selected them from the display.
It's on the expensive side for pizza - $15 for two slices is not cheap. These are pretty large slices - coming in at 150g each - and it is an expensive neighborhood, so it's not terrible, but people from other parts of the country with a better pizza culture might be shocked at these prices Also, the service is amazing
Overall, I think this place delivers on providing great quality with unparalleled uniqueness in...
Read more👌🏽 I popped into Ruffin's to try their pizza at lunchtime, and found the food and service a solid 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. There was a short line and plenty of pizza options available. Slices ranged from $4 - $8 per slice. I opted for 2 vegan slices (@ $4 each) for takeout. I got them home and proceeded to toast them in the toaster oven. The crust is crispy and somewhat fluffy (almost like a focaccia) and the toppings were savory and plentiful (tomato sauce, olives and onions. No cheese b/c vegan). That said, the pizza tasted old though the owner said the pizzas are made fresh each day. Maybe my slices were an anomaly. The crust was tough to chew into and the tomato sauce had that dried out appearance like it'd been sitting out for awhile. The green olives appeared to have been added after cooking which was fine but I love toasted olives. The slices also aren't huge so paying $8 for a slice seemed expensive, IMHO (see photo with ruler for measurement) so I'm glad I only paid $4 for my vegan slice. Will I return? Not likely, as I think there's a lot of other great pizza places in Seattle with better prices and fresher-tasting pizza.
In response to the owners comments: Thank you for the explanation. It’s appreciated. I’m glad to hear that the pizza is made fresh daily. Though it did not taste like it, I have amended my comment. Unfortunately, I did not think it was a 5-star pizza. Service was 3 stars (not bad, not great. Average.). It could have been bumped up, perhaps, if someone had asked if I needed my slices toasted onsite. The lunch “rush” was small only 4 people in line. Not too crazy busy. To be clear, the pizza is not bad; nor was the service. To me, it was average hence the 3-star rating. I’m happy to hear they donate unsold pizza and support the community; that’s not unique, many places do (especially here) and that’s a good...
Read moreThis spot is tucked right inside the Tommy Bahama building, and I only found it because I work across the street many months ago (right around the time they opened). Honestly, discovering it felt like winning the lunchtime lottery. Since then, whenever the pizza craving strikes, this has been the place.
The Fun Guy pizza? Absolute star of the show. I occasionally stray and “cheat” with their other veggie options, but I always end up crawling back—it’s that good. For a vegetarian, the sheer variety of flavors here is a rare treat, and it’s exactly why I’ve proudly sent more than two dozen of my coworkers their way. (Pretty sure I deserve a frequent-buyer badge by now.)
And it’s not just the pizza. The service is genuinely wonderful. Colleen at the counter always has a smile and a fun chat ready, and the couple running the place radiate the kind of easygoing kindness that makes a stolen lunch break feel like a reset button.
My only wish? That they’d open on weekends. I’d love to bring my family over and prove once and for all that the “amazing pizza” I keep bragging about is not just office-lunch...
