So many people have raved over Dave's Cosmic Subs, but I'd yet to try anything there. Last night, we had the opportunity as we were in the area. Typically, we get subs at a local pizzeria here in St. Albans and the subs there are HUGE. Subs are also much larger at delis in Fairfax, Georgia, and Essex Junction that we've frequented. They also make their bread from scratch, so that is what I'm using as a comparison.
We used a delivery service, so I can't speak of the atmosphere in the shop. I know the delivery service was earlier than expected and incredibly professional. I appreciate that.
The Incredible Dave - it was good, but the use of shredded cheese on the sub was unexpected and different, but it worked. The veggies seemed scant compared to other sub shops. The bread is fantastic though.
The Super Dave - I wasn't expecting the corned beef and pastrami to be minced. It's hard to tell if both were really in there. The coleslaw was chunkier than expected, but it worked well. It just again seemed that the fillings were scant compared to competition.
Dave's Tasty Bacon - For a BLT, this was average. The tomatoes were lacking. One of the sandwich halves only had one half of a tomato slice. Bacon was crispy, but again the bread was the winner.
For the price, I was expecting more in terms of toppings and the length of the rolls. Spending $80 (included tip) on sandwiches, chips, and an order of fries came out high in comparison to the places...
Read morejust extremely frustrating experience. 10+ dollars for a sub that iâm ânot allowedâ to customizeâŚand then when i do ask for things to be taken off of the sub (which is the only customization youâre allowed to ask for by the way), they donât actually take anything off! i canât help not liking tomatoes and onions, and i promise you my taste buds wonât like your sandwiches better âas isâ. thereâs barely any toppings on the sandwich in the first place as well, again not worth 10+ dollars for a sub that is barely even 6 inches long. youâre better off going anywhere else if you want a sub that you know youâll end up eating. edit: ordered a pizza sub today hoping for the best since i canât customize anything else. took one bite and my mouth is on fire, turns out thereâs red pepper flakes COATING my âpizza subâ (which, by the way, is a sub roll cut into 4 pieces and layed flat with not even a tablespoon of marinara sauce and a pound of mozzarella cheese) and now i canât even eat my lunch haha. at least put somewhere on the menu that this item has red pepper flakes on it please, it really ruined the sub for me and i wasnât even aware that it...
Read moreCosmic Dave's, where do I begin? I've lived in Vermont for 10 years, and I felt that Chittenden County was missing a delicious sub shop with many options. Cosmic Dave's really hit things out of the park. My boyfriend is from Chicago and he thinks the hot peppers here are the real deal, the different variety of sandwiches they make are all fabulous, and it tastes like your favorite big city deli sandwiches. The atmosphere of the shop itself is cool without being ostentatious or feeling inauthentic, and the owner is a super nice dude who spent a long time talking with us and the history of the place. I've gone back to eat here at least twice a week since we discovered it, it's that good. 10/10 A+ would munch again. Do yourself a favor and eat here if you're craving a good, real sandwich. My one critique is that there is so much to the sandwich that sometimes I have to re-stuff the toppings into the sandwich... but is that really...
