Hit the new Dry Fly location for an early lunch on a business trip to Spokane recently. Super cool and modern interior. Seems like little expense was spared to make the space inviting for visitors. We had a grilled cheese, flatbread, some soup, a flight of whiskey, and a cocktail. Our server was attentive enough and let us alone when we wanted to be alone. There was nice front of house guy or perhaps maybe even a distiller that offered us a tour of the cavernous distillery facility, but we didn't want to be a bother and had other stuff to discuss. The cocktail was nice and it was cool to try the different whiskeys side by side, sensory stuff is nerdy and fun. We had all the whiskeys available, but I enjoyed the big cask strength and the port finished, but the simple triticale whiskey was my favorite. Good merch gift shop, I picked up one each of the premixed cocktails for the wife back home.
A couple of notes though. The Apple map function dropped us out a couple blocks away; and when we did get to the building, there was no obvious entrance on the busy street side. The building looks like it houses/housed a newspaper or something similar and we were pretty close to giving up until we walked around the corner and figured out where we were. Maybe a little confusing.
Good experience. I wish the giftshop had bottles available that were exclusives, but oh well....
Read moreIt's not usual that I find an experience so negative in every way. Where do I begin? As this was our first visit, we relied on Google maps, only to be led to the old location. Apparently they had moved five months prior and still had not taken the time to update the new address. Others in our group went through the same rigamarole. Now, having missed the surprise element for the birthday party, we sat for 2 hours before getting our dinner! Let me be gracious enough to include the fact that it was restaurant week and as is so common these days, they were short staffed. However, the management of circumstances was non existent and we sat and watched the flailing of service. Getting past the unfortunate situation, I still have no desire to try it again, as I found the pace sterile and devoid of atmosphere, charm, or character. The food was fine in preparation, but in such small proportions that they really should be categorized as tapas. Then, after waiting 2 hours, we were told that some of our choices were no longer available, and were offered the option to call it quits or pick a new item. Those of us who stayed were not charged for the meal, but that did little to alleviate an evening that was supposed to be a celebration, turned stress fest. I hear the distillery is well received am happy to partake, but will purchase off-site and take my dining...
Read moreI went for restaurant week with a small group and a couple of us had never been before. The food was really good and service while we were seated was great. Main problem was the waiting, no one came out in the hour that we were there to see if there were new people. We had to tell each new group that came in that they needed to hunt someone down to get their name added to the list. We stood there for 20 minutes before we realized no one was coming out. I've done restaurant week for several years now, usually just 1. This is the only place I went to that did such small portions, the others we were with said they weren't normally that small. Everyone admitted later that week that we stopped somewhere on the way home for something else to eat as every single one of us left hungry. Many people who were waiting in line with us said the hour wait was worth it and while the food was good, it was not worth the price we paid and the leaving hungry still. I will try it out again as others said it wasn't usually like this, but would not go for restaurant week again as they scale down their servings and many other...
