In a sea of so-so options in the downtown Spokane area, the House of Brunch stands alone.
Whoever designed the menu is walking the perfect line between classic chef options and newer flavor options. Not only that, but there’s also an option to trust the chef and allow food options at his/her design - which we weren’t brave enough to try in our two trips, but is an AWESOME option.
Fancy enough to have caviar, and traditional enough to have a basic bacon + eggs + potatoes (latkes), the options made it tough to decide. Between our two trips with 4 people, we tried:
The French omelette with flat iron steak - Amazing. I’m not even a huge omelette fan and I know I’ll be dreaming of this. Try the flat iron with their in-house hot sauce (a sweeter sambal-style hot sauce), it’s excellent.
The short rib eggs Benedict - Short ribs are seasoned perfectly and melt-in-your-mouth. The arugula brings a perfect balance with the other textures and flavors.
The chicken and waffles - PERFECT. The chicken was seasoned and fried perfectly, and I’m a sucker for cardamom, which this had the perfect amount. Notably present, but not perfume-y.
The Hong Kong (stuffed French toast) - Might depend on your taste. Most of these are stuffed full of cream cheese or whipped cream filler and some fruit, which I’m not a fan of. These on the other hand are only filled with apple butter and are soft on the inside and perfectly crisped on the outside.
The bad unicorn - I had to try it. The idea of a drink with mushroom, beet juice, white coffee, white chocolate, and edible gold flakes seemed too ridiculous to actually be a viable drink. I was wrong. I loved it. And I do NOT like the reishi and lions mane drinks, but this was not earthy or dirt-tasting like those drinks usually are. I’d get it again!
All the hot drinks (including the hot cocoas and coffees) come with a small baked bite like a cookie or part of a danish/croissant - which are also really good.
Service got a 4/5 just because it seemed like they may have needed 1-2 more servers, they seemed spread a little thin. But they were all so pleasant, welcoming, patient, and accommodating.
It was so good we went back a 2nd...
Read moreCould there be any better place for brunch? The reviews we read were often superlative - not just saying House of Brunch’s entree was “good” but “the best”. We would agree! The Lox avocado toast was a fresh take on the traditional fare and the ingredients melded together in a tasty delight. The crab cake Benedict was of particular delight to me since I avoid gluten and it was sans English muffin. The eggs were done perfectly so as to get some liquid yolk without it being a mess. A real delicacy all around. But if that wasn’t enough ….Jackson, the sharp young owner, personally came to our table and engaged us in conversation. We could tell he truly valued having a first rate establishment (which he has!) so I suggested he add a gluten free option on the menu that was sweet. (Our server Gabby had kindly offered to have some gluten free French toast made for me, but I declined as it didn’t sound as special as the crab cake Benedict) Jackson kindly offered to make me some stuffed French toast! I said oh,no, that wasn’t necessary. But he insisted and I gladly agreed as I wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth. A short bit later he brought out my sweet entree that he himself had made! Gluten free French toast stuffed with huckleberry jam and a swirl of whipped cream on top with strands of syrup beautifully edging the plate. And it tasted even better than it looked! In the past I have so often had disappointment while eating out gluten free - especially for breakfast. IYKYK. This is the first time that I have had the best of the best for breakfast and left with dining beyond my expectations. I got choked up and had tears in my eyes when he brought the French toast to me. And I hesitate to add this because I don’t want others to think this happens to everyone, but Jackson did all of this “on the house”. We are just an old couple from Iowa and he has no expectation of us being repeat customers, and yet he gladly did this for me. I mean, who does things like that any more?!
House of Brunch - cool atmosphere, delectable food, and kind generous hearts. A real gem. We will be back next time we are in Spokane. Thank...
Read moreWent in to spoil myself with a great brunch on a rainy day, and got the perfect experience. Started by ordering a specialty coffee, The bad unicorn. It was ringed with edible gold and tasted incredible. I got it without the beet juice, since im not a beet juice person. The coffee was full bodied and sweet with a comfort of a fireplace in a snowstorm vibe. So good. Next I had the flambe cinnamon roll. I've had it here before and it was just as incredible as the first time. Flaky light breading, just enough cinnamon to be perfect and the sweet icing warmed with the flambe melted into the crevices of the roll. Was absolutely what I needed to make the inner fat kid dance. This is a cinnamon roll for 1 unless you want to be jealous of the bites your share partner are taking. Lastly I had the French omelet with steak and mushrooms. The omelet was soft and fluffy with just the right amount of middle goo. The steak I ordered rare and came out exactly perfect. Beautifully seasoned and tender. The mushrooms were above and beyond your standard Bella. All sorts of perfect tender flavorful lightly salted mushrooms. The perfect combination on the plate for a wonderful meal. The whole meal made my inner foodie dance like a little girl.
The space was bright and inviting. I took a tall booth in the back since it was just me. The bench seat was comfortable and let me enjoy the space without being alone in the middle of the room. The music was joyful and at just the right volume. There were many other people enjoying their meals and the vibes.
The server a kind attentive young woman was fast with her delivery while also making me feel welcome. Just the right amount of checking in. At the end of the meal who what I presume is the owner came and checked on me and took one of my plates. It's great to see hands on ownership. If he's a manager then hands on management that's great too. The staff all seemed happy and supported.
The Brunch House is worth every penny spent there. I came in kinda gloomy and left happy and satisfied. Elevated meal for an elevated mood. Great place to enjoy alone or with...
