My wife and I, a Black couple, called The Lagoon two hours ahead to ask what time they stopped serving dinner. We were told 9:50 PM, so we planned accordingly and arrived at 8:30 PM. Despite arriving well before their stated cutoff time, we were told there was no more seating available unless we sat at the bar.

We decided to stay and sit at the bar, even though it was uncomfortably cold inside. The server who greeted us seemed visibly irritated and disinterested, which made the experience feel unwelcoming from the start.

Not long after, a white couple walked in and was greeted with warm smiles and friendly conversation, then immediately seated at a table without hesitation. The contrast in treatment was clear and disheartening.

we couldn’t ignore the difference in how we were treated compared to them. We expected basic courtesy and professionalism, and unfortunately, that’s not what we received. We ended up leaving and taking our business elsewhere.

This experience left us feeling disappointed and unwelcome. We hope The Lagoon reflects on how their service impacts all guests, regardless of who they are.

Update: After posting this review, the business owner responded by calling me “insecure,” saying we were “playing the race card,” calling our experience “stupid,” and telling us not to come back. I want to clarify I was not upset about being on a waitlist. I was upset that when I called ahead, I wasn’t told there was a waitlist otherwise, we would’ve asked to be added. We shared our experience respectfully and honestly, but the owner’s reply was aggressive, racially insensitive, and dismissive. This behavior speaks volumes about how feedback is...

The Lagoon: 3/5. Not a pleasant experience from start to finish. As you enter the restaurant it's all over the place. The host/hostess desk is to the right and quite deep inside which is awkward. We sat and our waitress came and ordered drinks and app. She wasn't the friendliest and didnt smile much which is important for service!

We started with the mozzarella sticks and they were quite fresh very tasty and they were garnished with grated Parmesan. They were overall good and light. Marinara sauce tasted very good. Moving on to entrees I ordered the black and blue burger medium rare and I got it Medium-Medium well. The burger was not good by any standards. The beef tasted like it was dropped in the sink or something it was not good at all. The chips that were served were excellent and light but needed more salt to my taste. We also ordered the grandmas pizza and that was also good. Dough was light and crisp, the mozzarella and grape tomatoes were fresh along with the basil. It was very tasty and light.

Overall the meal was light but didn't leave hungry. Not impressed by the burger or the service. She barely checked on us. As we were leaving we were looking for bathrooms to wash our hands and we see a sign that says no public bathrooms. As a paying customer I should be able to use a restroom to wash my hands so now i had to settle to go back on the road looking for a bathroom. I only stopped here as I'm on my way to Montreal and was recommended this place. Nonetheless I'm pretty disappointed. Will never return back.

I’ve been coming to The Lagoon every year during our vacation, and it’s always been part of the tradition — but after our most recent experience, I’m honestly not sure we’ll return.

We waited over 45 minutes for our server, Antonia, to inform us that she hadn’t even put in our food order. In that time, three other tables were seated, served, and already eating while we were still waiting with no updates. On top of that, our drinks never arrived — and no other staff member stepped in to ask if we needed help or even acknowledged the situation. It felt like we were being completely ignored.

Antonia eventually apologized and told us she would give us an 80% discount, which seemed like a reasonable gesture at the time. But when the bill came, the discount was only 50%, with no explanation. That felt misleading. Throughout the experience, she also made awkward jokes that came off as tone-deaf given the situation — it really felt like she wasn’t reading the room at all.

To make matters worse, no manager came to speak with us, even after the delay and miscommunication. There was no formal apology or effort to make it right beyond the partial discount from the manager.

To be fair, the food was genuinely very good, as always — but the service completely overshadowed that. It’s not the customer’s job to chase down staff or ask to be treated fairly, especially when you’re a loyal guest who’s come for years.

I’m leaving this review not to be harsh, but because we left feeling disappointed and disrespected, and I hope this encourages better accountability and service...
