Gringo's Taqueria — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

So Gringos Taqueria....huh!! Interesting name. I have seen all the reviews previously post and wow! I don't know what to say. So let's start with the "salsa" umm its a water down version of pace salsa. So I gave it back and asked for a guacamole. sigh well for starters the proportions was way off. The tomatoes were to big, cilantro was not nicely diced, and the onion....the onion was a purple kind, who uses a purple onion for guacamole? Yes ,yes I know people will say we all have our ways of making guacamole but white onion is a normal ingredient in guacamole. So let's move on to the main meal. I asked for Carne asada taco and burrito. Huh well they may be famous for fish tacos but not these tacos. For one they use flour tortillas, cheese, lettuce, the "salsa" and other things. Let me put it this way it wasn't a real Carne asada taco! The burrito came with a salad and it didn't come to the table. The other issue I had was the fact that the food preparer/garnisher was touch all different foods and then touched mine. Please wear gloves.  I know it seems like I'm bashing the place but the previous reviews were not accurate. Given I have a Hispanic background, mexican to be exact and from Mexico this place is not on my top 10 list! Now this I do gotta say the customer service was beyond outstanding! This place is amazing! Probably the best kept secret in Virginia Beach. Although it’s not much of a secret anymore. When we first started coming here years ago it was very small. Recently it just got very very busy as they’ve expanded. We try to go during the week in the middle of the day. If you try to go Friday or Saturday night you will be waiting for at least an hour.

The fish tacos are the best fish tacos in Virginia Beach, and the shrimp tacos are very good as well. Honestly I haven’t tried a taco that I don’t like. I also really love the pineapple shrimp quesadilla. Yum!

Now the bartender (and maybe a partial owner? I’m not sure) is fantastic! When they are crazy busy he will come take your drink order while you wait in the hall way and the drinks that this guy makes are hand down the best drinks we’ve ever had. He makes a lot of different custom cocktails and wow! Just wow!

The owner is also fantastic. She is so kind and always is walking around delivering food and making sure everyone is okay.

My only wish for this place is that they can expand to accommodate more people BUT I hope they never change their hospitality and...
