We recently visited the Parlor Doughnuts location near the Virginia Beach oceanfront, and it was a delightful first experience! The shop is conveniently located just a few minutes’ walk away on Pacific Avenue, making it an easy stop before or after enjoying the beach.
We tried a half dozen of their famous layered doughnuts, and each one impressed us. The flavors we picked—French Toast, Maple Bacon, Chocolate, Lemon Bar, Sandy Beach, and Cookies and Cream—were all distinct and delicious. What really stood out was the texture: the doughnuts were beautifully layered, wonderfully tender and moist, with a crispy edge and a light, airy interior. Despite their indulgent appearance, they weren’t overly sweet, which made it easy to enjoy more than one without feeling overwhelmed.
To pair with the doughnuts, we ordered a couple of iced lattes, which were smooth and flavorful—just the right balance to complement the richness of the pastries. We also decided to try their breakfast tacos with bacon. They came in fried corn tortillas, which added a crispy texture, but the tacos on their own felt like they could’ve used a bit more flavor or sauce. Thankfully, the shop had Cholula hot sauce packets on hand, which helped round things out and gave the tacos a much-needed punch.
The service was friendly and fast, and although the indoor space was a bit tight with limited seating, there’s a nice outdoor seating area that would be perfect for warmer days. It's a great spot to sit back, enjoy your coffee and doughnuts, and take in the ocean breeze just a short walk from the shoreline.
Overall, Parlor Doughnuts in Virginia Beach made a great first impression. From the thoughtfully crafted doughnuts to the quality coffee and welcoming service, it’s a spot we’ll definitely return to the next time...
Read moreWe visited Parlor Donuts for the first time today, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The place just opened, and we couldn’t resist checking it out, especially with all the buzz. We ordered two full-sized donuts—the Maple Bacon and the Honey Glaze—as well as an assorted pack of minis that came with Cinnamon Sugar, Raspberry Jelly, and Coconut Cream.
Let me start by saying, these are not your average donuts. They’re made from croissant dough, which gives them this wonderfully light and flaky texture, unlike anything we’ve had in the area. The Maple Bacon donut had that perfect sweet-and-salty combo, with crispy bacon bits complementing the rich maple glaze. It was easily one of the best bacon donuts I’ve ever tasted! The Honey Glaze was simple yet perfect—delicate sweetness with a light glaze that didn’t overwhelm the airy layers of the croissant base.
As for the mini donuts, they were equally amazing. The Cinnamon Sugar was classic but elevated, with the perfect balance of spice and sweetness. The Raspberry Jelly had just the right amount of tartness to cut through the sweetness, and the Coconut Cream was rich and smooth, giving off tropical vibes with each bite. The variety in the minis made it hard to pick a favorite, but they were all delicious.
The space itself is great too—there’s a lot of seating both inside and outside, so whether you want to enjoy your donuts inside or take in some fresh air, you’ve got options. It’s perfect for hanging out or grabbing a quick bite.
Overall, we were so impressed! These were probably the best donuts we’ve had in the area by far, and we can’t wait to come back and try more of their flavors, along with some of their coffee options next time. If you’re a donut lover, Parlor Donuts is...
Read moreFor a first visit at this location it was pretty good, but I see room for improvements for this newer business.
Parking is on the rear, or in front street free of charge. The exterior looked good. For a Monday morning they were decently busy with customers enjoying their food on the patio.
I entered to a short line. I was greeted. The interior seemed somewhat similar to the former business May's Parlor. However, the big departure were the massive cases for doughnuts.
I asked for recommendations from the staff and decided on a French toast and a blueberry doughnut. I wanted to also try a breakfast sandwich and got a pesto. I added a cup of house coffee. Checkout was friendly. You can't tip on the machine. I got my two doughnuts boxed and coffee in a for here cup then sat down.
The interior has only a few tables and they had food crumbs, I'm sure this is difficult to police and doughnuts are messy. The worse aspect were the army of flies. They kept the door propped open which exacerbated the problem. My sandwich was plated and thank you for that. But was given to me between the coffee machine where there is little room. A delivery to the table makes sense.
The coffee tasted good, but did have heavy grind residue. By this time there was a line, so I let it go. The sandwich was as pretty meh for me. I would try something different. The French toast doughnut was pretty good, absolutely fresh! The hero was the blueberry that knocked my socks off.
I will try them again. 3.5...
